Enough is enough

  Double standard comes to mind.

There were 8 (!!!!) reported cases of sexual abuse by priests in 2009 in Vienna alone. 17 in the whole of Austria.
http://www.austriantimes.at/news/Genera ... _ombudsman

The archbishop of Vienna was on TV the other day and declined the question whether the perpetrators are going to be handed over to the authorities.

Enough is enough! Somebody needs to show these people that these kind of offences get you locked up. Lock up the lot, is all I can say.

When are the authorities going to step in?? Worldwide? And why is the RCC getting away with just moving their priests to different dioceses???

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So no attitude change then. Kick out the men having gay sex, but the child molesters can get by with a bit of holy forgiveness. Honestly, if this weren't a religion, it would have been shut down long ago. By police in riot gear.

The story just supports my theory that whenever you hear preaching against "the gay", you can assume those doing the preaching are gay. I'm starting to wonder if there are any heterosexuals left actively opposing gay rights. Is it all self-hating homosexuals?

Merge this with the Pope thread, or split off the posts from the Pope thread that deal with this topic? Or just leave it as it is?

Which would you lot prefer?

You might as well merge it, every single religion topic comes back to this.

Do you ever feel like you're defending a cause that are actively trying to impede your efforts? :wall:

Have I ever told the joke about the man who poured Domestos down the throat of a clergyman who had been sent to prison for sexual abuse of children?

Spoiler! :
He was charged with a bleach of the priest.

I really think the Church would actually be seen in a better light if it actually co-operated with the police etc and ensured the abusers were punished. Of course that will not happen and we will continue to criticise.

Not that it makes any difference at all to the atrocious lack of handling by the RCC, but why don't the police do something?!!!! That's their job!

Absolutely. The only thing from the past is the way the RCC has covered up these allegations.

Amen, sister. That's the whole point of the police, to enforce the law.

And honestly, that's the only way this behavior is ever going to end. I should think that the Catholic police officers should be especially motivated to end the cover-ups. Cleaning their own house to maybe put a stop to the constant embarrassment and get some of the more corrupt elements out of the RCC.

Oh if it were up to normal catholics they'd be in prison, problematically as ever it's not.

Yeah thats one of the reasons I quit defending the faith. Though rest assured if a priest finds the cure for cancer he won't get credit for it on this board! LOL! (now watch all the posts about how unlikely that will be. LOL!)

I'm drifting more and more towards the Hindu faith these days. Not giving up my Christianity just yet but seem to be drifting in the other direction. I've already got a little figurine or whatever-you-call-it of Ganesha in the house. Placed next to the one I have of the Virgin Mary of course!
