Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Postby Sir Didymus » Sun Apr 06, 2003 1:25 am

I've just decided to watch this film for the first time in ages.

It's a quaint little film, highly reminiscient of 'Ghostbusters' - the music in particular is near identical in places. Not as good as the cartoon though...

So let's be honest -- who here was a Turtles fan all those years ago?

Splinter is definitely the best - anyone who can wear a purple dressing gown in public without shame gets my vote on dignity grounds alone!

LEONARDO: What's all this sticky stuff all over the floor of the van? Michaelangelo!

MICHAELANGELO: It wasn't me dude!

I can't wait! 8)

I think my reputation as a retro-head is alreay well and truly established here... this kinda thread is exactly what he expects of me...

Anyhew... I can't believe how lucky they are in America - not only do they have every episode of Python on dvd (we just have a few compilations), not only do they have an extras-packed 'Life Of Brian', but now I see they have 'TMNT' on dvd!

I never really liked 'python' that much to be honest...maybe it was too intelligent for me...or maybe it was just plain daft.

LOL!

You don't remember the song from the cartoon then?

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Heroes in a half-shell - Turtle Power

They're the world's most fearsome fighting team (We're really hip)
They're heroes in a half-shell and they're green (Hey, get a grip)
When the evil Shredder attacks
These turtle boys don't cut him no slack

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Splinter taught them to be fighting teens (He's a radical rat)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines (That's a fact, Jack)
Raphael is cool but crude (Gimme a break)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Partaaaaaay!)

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Heroes in a half-shell - Turtle Power

They had to change it to Hero Turtles over here for fear of 5-year-olds wanting ninja-stars for christmas or summat...

TOP ROW l-r -- Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael
BOTTOM -- Donatello

And you think that's sad... I can get worse... I've got mp3s of the theme tune as it was in the UK, the USA and Japan (definitely the best). I even downloaded a drum n bass remix of it... good for a laff I guess. 8)

I LOVE THE NINJA TURTLES! I watched the cartoons everyday...
I like the film too. I didn't votre on the poll, because there wasn't my choice: every character is great. I have toys of the turtles, with every object they used (Raphael had even a pizza in his shell!). I also have some comics with them.
Once, a coouple of years go, I named two turtles after Michaeangelo and Leonardo. Splinter, April and Shredder were good ones too. And you forgot Rocksteady and Bebop. And Krang... And Man Ray...

I could be... I've got loads of tv theme tunes... and I'm always on the look out for more.

I just found out that the Turtles cartoon actually ran on American television for ten years! It was cancelled in 1996 - long after the show had vanished from British tv.

Sometimes, just sometimes, they showed a few episodes last year on BBC Choice - but I don't have digital. I really should write to the BBC and ask them to put the show on again - late at night would do - just like Channel 4 and 'The Magic Roundabout', 'Clangers' & 'Monkey'.

SHAMELESS PLUG TIME

The best kids tv theme tune ever imho is 'Better Than A Dream', written and recorded by Mike Batt - for 'The Dreamstone'...

Also for that show, he recorded 'The Urpney Song' with Billy Connolly, and Ozzy Osbourne -- and that is one track NO ozzy fan should be without!
