if we're sober in our wishes for live releases..

Talk about Queen's live performances!

if we're sober in our wishes for live releases..

Postby eiricd » Thu Jan 07, 2010 11:46 am

what do you think we can look forward to in the new decade? let's not think about video for a second, but audio only..

my thoughts are these:

1: live albums are certainly not what they used to be in terms of sales
2: physical albums sales are decreasing - and I don't think archive digital-only live albums are a great prospect

thus;

if the past decade is anything to go by, we'll get audio releases together with a dvd release. so certainly a couple of those.

and MAYBE; not counting the anthologies, they'll do a live box set. considering the number of compilations available of studio material, I think at some point they'll tap into the live material they have. the question is whether they'll do it right or not. i.e;
a:) take point 1 &2 into consideration and thus make a box with the fans/collectors in mind
b:) play safe and include available material mixed with odd gems which would make the fans buy it anyways

what do you reckon?
Thankyou Paul Rodgers, for your time, effort and massive talent - enabling Queen to go out again from 2005 - 2008.
I salute you

I'd love to see something released with collectors in mind, but I have a feeling they'll be thinking of sales and stuff and go for something like option b. It'd still be cool though

1`ve never understood why they haven`t released a DVD of the Rare Live video. Perhaps they could use the concept and use any footage discovered since the original release

I would love to see a mahoosive box set of live tracks. Perfectly happy with them to be audio only, though a DVD of Rare Live would be interesting. As I've said before in these pages, I am positively itching for a DVD/CD set of Budapest '86.

I'd also like to see Live Magic fixed and expanded into the double album it always should have been. It's all very well to say 'we have Live At Wembley', but the only thing that let's the Wembley gig down for me is the swampy sound. The band could easily release a full 2 CD package of the Magic Tour set at this point and fix the mistake.

I think that they were reacting to criticism they got for leaving the operatic section of Bohemian Rhapsody on Live Killers. Then, when they released Live Magic they left that out (ridiculous in itself and would be considered madness now), but then they cut down TYMD, IWTBF and ITTWWC.

For my money, Live Magic is an irrelevant release and one that I have no interest in owning for precisely those reasons.

Of course, the band might not want to release the expanded Live Magic because it would (I assume) have exactly the same track listing as Live At Wembley. I suppose this may be why we still don't have the DVD of the Budapest '86 show.

I'd love to see Brian's Live at Brixton released on DVD.
I'd also like to see his unreleased Royal Albert Hall album from the Antoher World tour.
But that's just me.

Brian's Albert Hall 98 should be on dvd

Budapest should be on blu-ray - I only hope they do it right and makes it sound as good as montreal

As I said many times before- I'd love to see more from 70's. I'm totally agree about Brian's solo. The whole box of his solo stuff (Resurrection video). The Magic Years would be great to see on DVD. Freddie's ballet.
Oh, so much more...
Ooh, it makes me wonder...

It was a cracking gig and I'm surprised it never saw the light of day. I just guess it didn't live up to Brian's expectations.

Well, unfortunatly I wouldn't know that because I wasn't there.(I live on the other side of the world.)
And I was too young to see him in 93.(I wish I could have gotten that chance because I would have liked to have see Cozy Powell play live once in my life.)

Having recently ploughed by way through the AC/DC DVD set Plug Me In, I think this is something that Queen should definitely look at in the future. 3 DVDs, over 7 hours of live material and hardly a duff moment.
