Re: Made in Heaven
If you listen to The Miracle, Innuendo and Made In Heaven as one triple album, instead of three separate albums, it makes much more sense. The themes are the same: death, life, taking stock of your time on earth, letters (in song) to loved ones, the legacy and wisdom we leave behind. Forget A Night ...

Re: Made in Heaven
The thing I remember the most is hearing Mother Love on the radio for the first time. Tape recorder on, of course. When the song began, I was literally jumping with joy (I was 15, gimme a break!) My favourite band were releasing a new album, when no one thought they would. I was so happy. And as the...

Re: Queen and George Michael
Imagine George singing Tie Your Mother Down. Can you do it? Me neither.
I loved him, he had an unbelievable voice. But he didn't have the versatility to sing Queen. Few people do.

Re: Greatest Hits III [Special Edition]
I didn't read the whole thread, so sorry if I'm repeating someone else's point. The band had an unwritten rule about the Greatest Hits compilations: If it didn't make the UK top 30, it didn't go on the record. Brian May, quiet egomaniac that he is, has gone on record saying that it bugged him that T...

Bought it last year along with The Complete Illustrated Lyrics. Fantastic volumes, both of them.

Re: What Were They Thinking?
There's certain songs where Brian sings, that I'm not sure Freddie would have done much better, Long Away, for example. Add to that, take albums where Freddie sang the lot, like The Works, and they're lacking the point-counterpoint dynamic that albums like ADATR, or NOTW have in abundance. Not to m...

Re: ‘Lost Opportunity’
I think it's fair to say that the older I've got, the more I appreciate stuff in the blues genre. Generally, it's taking music back to it's basics, isn't too busy, and lets a group of musicians fall into a fairly predictable chord structure, that allows a guitarist to fall easier into soloing withi...

Re: Future boxsets
I really admire what Pink Floyd are doing with their boxsets - first came The Early Years, this year they released The Later Years and some time in the future there will be The Middle Years. They cost an arm and a leg, but they're pretty much exhaustive (especially the first one). They also release ...
