Re: Favourite Music Videos

When you see the list of labels and artists EMI have had on their books, it does make you wonder how they went bust. Unfortunately, towards the back end of their existence, like when investors like Citibank got involved, the top bands were jumping ship at an alarming rate. They tried loads of ideas...

Re: Favourite Music Videos

The thing they say about these Beatles promo videos is that they were filmed for a specific show in mind. Whereas Bohemian Rhapsody although mainly done for TOTP it got shown on many other TV shows globally at the same time. That's why I think Queen got the credit as the first promotional video. I ...

Re: Favourite Music Videos

What promo videos do you think have really influenced the medium. I do not understand, why many sources claim, that "Bohemian Rhapsody" "is widely considered the first-ever promotional music video of its time". Promovideos were around and quite popular already in the 60s. https://www.youtube.com/wa...

Re: Is A Day at the Races underlooked and therefore deserves more attention?

I have the same sort of story, but mine started really with Seven Seas Of Rhye, and Queen II. It was an amazing time with so many exciting bands, Bowie's Spiders, Sweet, Slade, Roxy Music, Mott the Hoople, Sparks, Supertramp, 10cc and many more. Not to forget the "serious" acts like "Deep Purple", ...

Re: Is A Day at the Races underlooked and therefore deserves more attention?

If you're interested in tales about growing up as a Queen fan in the '70s, I have written about some things I remember: https://diogenescommunications.co.uk/teenage-tales-of-queen-via-ten-objects What a nice essay, YES, that's the way it was like. I also have that Japanese "Queen" album, those pres...

Re: QAL Videos

Anyone know why BRA (Brian, Roger, Adam) ever started performing Machines? When you have such a huge catalogue to chose from - why not take this song? I wish they would do that more often. I once saw an interview, where Roger said, that he liked the idea of doing a complete album and he mentioned "...

Re: A Kind of Magic!

Says how you really feel, just joking ;) . I disagree, with your views, but that's ok. I have to say I love the "pop" sound Queen did in the 80's. Well, most of it. Who Wants To Live Forever for me is one of the best songs they did in the 80s. When you started getting into "Queen" because of songs ...

Re: Is A Day at the Races underlooked and therefore deserves more attention?

I have exceptionally fond memories of the A Day at the Races album. It was, aged 10, my introduction to grown-up music. I think I am right in saying that it is the first ‘proper’ record I owned (bought by my parents, obviously)....... It oozed class and sophistication — the beautiful cover artwork,...

Apparently, Tim Staffell wrote the song, but I've never seen any credible evidence to support this claim.
Go to this website and interview at ca 42:00 minutes. And there you have it .... ;)

Re: The Cross - Life Changes

Could well be Brian May. Queen were never really "open" about the origins of their "solo-recordings". Even "Heaven for everyone" (Freddie-version on Cross album) sounded more like an outtake from Queen (even the guitar). While Roger told the press, that Freddie wanted to sing on this Cross-track... ...
