I'm sorry I'm late, Bethy. But I'm relieved that our ever constant and faithful Amanda made it back on time.

Thinking of Zephie today. And Julia whom we forgot in August.

I swear in late July I reminded myself,"Don't forget Julia on August 3rd!" And then I did any way. :sadw:

Emma's birthday was December 31st, and we lost her on December 29th. Once again - broken record - I thought of her around Christmas and chided myself,"Don't forget Emma at QOL now!" "I won't."

Lighting a candle for Zephie today, and for Julia whom we missed in August. :)

I wanted to put a springtime poem here for Bethany this year. Not really familiar with Amy Gerstler, but I think B would've like it, and that last couplet especially.

Gardens are also good places
to sulk. You pass beds of
spiky voodoo lilies
and trip over the roots
of a sweet gum tree,
in search of medieval
plants whose leaves,
when they drop off
turn into birds
if they fall on land,
and colored carp if they
plop into water.

Suddenly the archetypal
human desire for peace
with every other species
wells up in you. The lion
and the lamb cuddling up.
The snake and the snail, kissing.
Even the prick of the thistle,
queen of the weeds, revives
your secret belief
in perpetual spring,
your faith that for every hurt
there is a leaf to cure it.

Missy, that's the sweetest, most beautiful piece I've ever read. I didn't know Bethany or any of the people who passed here before I joined, but I'm sure she would have loved it, because I think anyone would love it.

"In Perpetual Spring", huh? I'll have to remember that, and the author.
