Who would have thought AL singing a a Queen song would have been been linked to in this discussion?
Surprise, surprise.

Liking Queen has never been cool in the space I've inhabited these past 4 decades. The main reason is homophobia. I think it's safe to say the post Freddie years have been extremely uncool. Freddie is acknowledged as a legend but the band is viewed as shlocky. The QEX and QAL projects are more nails in the coffin of coolness. It's cool to be a Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin fan. But Queen? Don't think so but I also don't care about that. And this is merely a USA perspective.

Points to think about for sure. I don't care about the cool factor Queen didn't have, but it's a shame at times the music was overlooked at times.

Oh CNB, love...you had one person say you were cool, the rest of the people in the airport were ready to punch you in the face for holding up the queue.

Curious now...did the guy call you babe as well?

In any case, you are lucky. More than once, I ended up being called awful names for wearing a Queen tee. Of course this was a few years ago. Honestly, I'd still be wearing it...if it still fit me.

I've always had positive feedback when wearing Adam and Queen/Adam tee's!

Funny, all this talk of 'cool'...

...Queen have always been - and probably always will be - the least cool, least fashionable band on the planet. And that is why I love them. For me, there is a certain cool in uncool, unfashionable things...if you know what I mean.

Queen are definitely not cool.

If ever someone I don't know asks me who my favourite band is, I always say Thin Lizzy, because they were a fucking cool band. I'll only admit to Queen being my genuine favourite band once I get to know someone

action wrote:the reason Queen isn't regarded as high as, say led zeppelin / AC/DC / black sabbath / rolling stones etc, is, Queen as a rock band doesn't really cut it.

the big problem here is the incredible uncharismatic / uninspired guitarist in the band. Brian doesnt have the looks, nor the coolness to come up with memorable riffs.

he couldnt write a cool riff if his life depended on it. it's just generic harmonies all over the place.

when all is said and done, brian will be the weakest link in Queen's story, and the main reason why Queen, the band, won't be regarded higher.

Led zeppelin is remembered for killer riffs. so does sabbath. guns n roses. aerosmith.

The fact Queen are second only in sales to The Beatles is proof of what?

Have ever read Guitarist Magazine where every, and I mean everybody and his brother sites Brian as an influence?

I seriously think there is something wrong with your ears. BM left pedestrian rock riffs behind decades ago. Of course Brian's riffs are forgetable, bgo whistle you twat.

I'm now seriously thinking "troll". Brian was the main musical force in Queen, Fred was a great songwriter and the best front man, but Brian had the energy.
