Wow! That Smiths release I surely will buy.

Let's hope the reissue of NOTW is even better...

Unfortunately, I don't think we will have the joy
of getting an unreleased concert and demo's.

That one looks really mega. I'm honestly not much of a fan of Leppard, but Hysteria really stands out for me as a superb album.

I've been drooling over a few, but those Bowie reissues (inc the new RSD titles) have drained my resources something chronic, so not bought many...

The ones that spring to mind though are:

Everything Must Go - Manic Street Preachers
LP - Original album remastered on heavyweight vinyl
CD1 - Original album remastered + bsides
CD2 - bsides + remixes
DVD1 - Live at Nynex full concert
DVD2 - Freed from Memories documentary + music videos
+ Booklet

In this one, the big draw was the Nynex concert and the documentary, as the album already had a pretty decent cd reissue 10 years ago.

The Holy Bible - Manic Street Preachers
LP - Original album remastered on heavyweight vinyl
CD1 - Original album remastered
CD2 - US Mix of the album remastered
CD3 - Bsides and remixes
CD4 - Live at the Astoria '94 + Maida Vale session '14
+ Booklet

Sadly no visual element to this one, but it was the first time the album didn't sound like it was recorded in a shed on some duct tape, so...

Purple Rain - Prince
CD1 - Original album remastered
CD2 - Unreleased tracks
CD3 - Single edits & b-sides
DVD - Live at the Carrier Dome

No vinyl with this one, but it's a meagre £16 on Amazon right now, so...

Lovely Creatures - The Best of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds (1984 - 2014) - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
CD1 - Best of disc one
CD2 - Best of disc three
CD3 - Best of disc four
DVD - Rare performances and interviews
+ Book packaging

There's a bog standard 1-disc version of this, plus a 2-discer, but the only way you can get the DVD is in this box set. Which, given I've got every album on deluxe edition 2-discers with surround sound mixes already, is rather irritating... the other three discs are basically coasters if I buy this!

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
CD1 - Original album in mono and stereo, plus additional material
CD2 - The Pet Sounds Sessions
CD3 - The Pet Sounds Sessions + alternate versions
CD4 - Live recordings + 'stack-o-vocals'
BLU - Original album and additional material in 5.1 surround, mono, stereo and instrumental stereo
+ book packaging

This looks like a catch-all release that has everything you could possibly need from this album except for a vinyl edition... which may have inspired...

Sgt Pepper - The Beatles

4 AUDIO CDs:

A new stereo mix of the album by Giles Martin. Sgt. Pepper Sessions on 2 CDs – with over 100 minutes of audio illustrating how the album was created. Newly mixed from the original four-track tapes, most of the material is previously unreleased. Also contains the original 1967 mono mix of the album and bonus tracks including three previously unreleased mixes.

BLU-RAY/DVD:
CD1 - New stereo mix of the album
CD2 - Sgt Pepper Sessions
CD3 - Sgt Pepper Sessions
CD4 - Original mono mix + bonus tracks
DVD - 1992 making of documentary + surround mix of the album & bonus tracks + hi res stereo mix of the album & bonus tracks
BLU - Same content as the dvd but lossless surround...
+ 144 page hardback book
+ insert replica + posters

Expensive but a benchmark...

One that recently just got released is the Deluxe Edition Paisley Park remaster of Purple Rain, which turned out to be one of the last things Prince ever worked on before his death

Disc 1: The Original Purple Rain album (Paisley Park remaster)
Disc 2: From the Vault: 11 Previously unreleased songs
Disc 3: Single Edits & B sides
Disc 4: Prince & the Revolution Live at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse NY, March 30th 1985 Concert DVD
My make up maybe flaking but my smile still stays on

Taking a sort of "average" (ridiculous, I know) and applying that to what we sort of know exists...the below is my (possibly over-ambitious) idea of what might be considered "par for the course" in the market currently...

Disc 1 - NOTW, remastered
Disc 2 - It's Late (Japanese edit), BBC Session, the other tracks already released on the Bonus EP last time, possibly a new unreleased track or demo, more likely additional live tracks. 45 mins total running time.
Disc 3/4 - Houston audio, or poss WATC shoot audio.
Blu Ray - NOTW, surround sound. Houston Video (stereo sound). Bob Harris Doc, promo vids.
Book - New intro by Brian May, "making of" notes, some unseen photos. OK, maybe more of a pamphlet.
Poster - foldout repro of original artwork, 12x24 size. Poss the inner sleeve too.
Wildcard - inflatable robot!

Of that, the Bluray looks too good to be true, maybe a DVD of promos and the documentary is more likely - but that would categorise this as "below average" (ridiculous, I know)....

I see Debbie Gibson is releasing a 10CD 3DVD box set. Save up your money for this one.

I am interested in this one.

"Universal Music will in October issue The Jam / 1977, a new 40th anniversary, five-disc box set celebrating the busy debut year of The Jam, when Paul Weller, Rick Buckler Bruce Foxton and delivered two albums and three hit singles.

This forthcoming collection features remastered versions of both In The City and This Is The Modern World, and despite a plethora of Jam box sets in the last five or six years the label have dug out six previously unreleased demos from the first album which feature on the second CD alongside five further demos which have been issued before.
CD four is a live disc and includes a previously unreleased concert (15 tracks) from the ‘Nashville’ recorded on 10 September 1977. This is paired with two John Peel sessions from the same year.

Finally the fifth disc – a DVD – features TV appearances and promo videos.

This discs in this box set are packaged in mini-LP vinyl replica wallets with printed inner bags. In The City uses the US version of the inner sleeve and This Is The Modern World features an alternate Gered Markowitz cover image. The box is a rigid card, lift-off lid variety and comes with a 144-page book, featuring new liner notes, period photos etc. It also comes with five postcards.

The Jam / 1977 will be released on 20 October 2017"

"An alternate sleeve" makes me wonder - would Frank Kelly Freas have possibly submitted sketch ideas....? Might there be a third image alongside the two we've seen?

Admittedly, half of it is live shows, but look at the studio stuff!

Whitesnake's 1987 is one of my all-time favourites. Had that ordered within moments of finding out about it.

Update - How did we do?

Disc 1 - NOTW, not remastered (at least not recently) - below par
Disc 2 - Is very close to the actual Disc 3, except that has no new unreleased track, and is padded out with 5 instrumentals - below par
Disc 3 - The actual Disc 2 is all unreleased - above par
Blu Ray - Just the Bob Harris Doc (and shorter than expected) and it's actually a DVD - below par
Book - No sign of any text at all - below par
Other - The usual kind of thing - par
Vinyl - With the current retro appeal, this is not particularly surprising and clearly some effort has gone into it - par

Conclusion - other artists are making a better job of this kind of thing
