Queen in 2018 ?

Discuss current and upcoming Queen projects.

Queen in 2018 ?

Postby Kevinrm15 » Mon Jan 01, 2018 10:58 pm

Someone else already got the ball rolling on QZ, so I thought I would start a thread here too. What do you think/hope Queen will release this year ?

Personally, I want them to go back to doing live releases. I think we may very well see the Hyde Park/Earls Court/Houston compilation DVD that they've been talking about for sometime now.

Over to you guys now....Happy New Year !!!

What I would like to see/hear/happen is the anthologies. Every year I get my hopes up for it, silly me.
I'd love Brian or Roger to write an autobiography. I think I hope for that every year too.
Pah.

I hope the movie is a success. Would be great to get a soundtrack album with orchestral music based on Queen music (similar to The Queen Symphony).

Definitely time for a gargantuan and fitting live box set. It must be about 20 years ago now that QPL first mentioned they were looking at collating the live stuff and making something spectacular out of it all (I know, I know...we Queen fans are used to things not materialising). I want to see a live anthology with accompanying DVD (and include bootleg, inferior footage too) that will cement this band's reputation as one of the finest live bands of all time; it is shocking that a band so well known for their amazing live shows has still not put something worthy out there.

I want to see the film too. And pray it is a huge success.

Also, it would be lovely to see all the promos on one collection: refreshed and worked on with the latest technology.

Lastly, the much-desired Queen anthology.

One of my wishes above will definitely not happen :P

Most of all I want the anthologies....

Or barring that more studio archival releases.

Don't get me wrong I like the live releases but at the end of the day I have high quality live gigs from most eras by now.

Rainbow for a QII and SHA gig
Night at the Odeon of ANATO
Live Killers
Rock Montreal 1981
ON Fire 1982
Wembley/Budapest etc. Magic Tour.

Then decent quality boots for the other eras....Sure I'd love more live releases AND will lap them up - BUT what I really want is more of the Raw Sessions discs....Completely UNHEARD takes, demos, etc.

I can't imagine the Anthologies will ever happen now.
As per the comments around the NOTW box, it's hard to create something in an economically viable way. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I think that market has probably passed.

What I would like to hear this year -
The new State Of Shock recording.
The Queen mix of There Must Be More To Life.. with MJ.
A semi-complete Silver Salmon.
A South America 1980 set with Rock It and Need Your Loving Tonight.

Would love to see som raw sessions/archival stuff from either Queen 2, a possible ’pre-Queen’ compilation or a release of the trident version of ’When the night comes down’..just as an mp3 would be fine with the last one i mentioned.

I tend to agree that the Anthologies will never happen, but i personally would love a comprehensive Live box set of some kind to be released. Forget Anniversary dates and look to sort out an updated and extended look at Jazz and Live Killers within the same package in time for Christmas 2018. This could include Hammersmith 79 as the DVD/ Blu Ray and any raw/demo/outtake tracks from the Jazz album.
For me it would make sense to roll them out together rather than individually and we would hopefully get a nice package with some greater options on purchase again..deluxe...cd/dvd...vinyl...digital...suitable for everyone's pocket and prefered choice of format. I think i have commented previously that i would extend the book offered in the deluxe set with far more txt all relating to these 2 releases and drop all the replica tat. Another opportunity to produce a great set. The artwork for both albums as did NOTW lends itself to all sorts of imaginative possibilities to improve even further on the last release.

It would also be nice if they could complete the NOTW set with a live show and finally release a stand alone cd/dvd release of Houston.

Having said all of this i have a nagging suspicion that it may possibly be a 'baron' year and all we will get is a Queen + AL live release in the Summer and a somehow revised and re- packaged 'Greatest Hits' release to tie in with the film come December which would cash in on the Christmas market at the right time.
I really hope i am wrong though...

I'm really not too fussed about live albums - I never listen to the bloody things! Perhaps if they come with a visual representation I might be more tempted to stick them on, but I'd get far more use out of a studio based collection personally.

So for me... while it has flaws, I'd welcome a Jazz box like the NOTW one. And I'd be overjoyed if they released a proper music video collection on blu-ray at last.

Anything else is a bonus.

It's interesting the divided opinion many people have over either live or studio...can totally understand both opinions although mine is always live...lol

I normally tend to hunt out live albums by bands i either listen to or have been recommended to listen to rather than a greatest hits compilation once i have heard their newest release and if i want to hear more from a particular band or artist.

Although i was very interested in the feedback of people who attended the Innuendo session a few months back and found that fascinating. Now that would be a nice release in some kind of format for those unable to have attended.
