Q+PR : one more time ?

Postby Zak Royen » Thu Feb 22, 2018 12:57 pm

Do you guys believe there's any chance at all that Brian and Roger will ever perform again with Paul Rodgers ?

Even if it's just one gig, or just one song... I'd be thrilled.
How about you ?

Even though I want QAL to last forever, I'd be cool with seeing them jam on a few old Free/Bad Co. songs once again, if nothing else.

I think I said it once or twice here before, but I kinda thought a cool idea for a new Queen studio album would be Brian and Roger and whatever other musicians (Spike, Neil, etc.) along with several different singers (Adam, Paul, Kerry, etc.) maybe doing a few songs each, and then a few songs with Brian and/or Roger on vocals. Just call it "Queen+" or something.

Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

Once they starting talking about the split, all of them left the door open for a one off show or charity show or whatever. I'm not sure if they genuinely believed it was something that might happen or if it was more a "we're still friends, honest" kind of thing.

But can't really imagine it happening as long as QAL are still a thing.

I can't see it ever happening. But I'd love to see it happen.

Brian has pretty much erased Paul from Queen’s history, so no

I thought Brian and Paul patched things up in the last couple of years. There was a pic of Brian and Paul together and I hoped things were patched up.

Yeah, they seem fine and Brian even wrote a chapter on QPR in the book last year.

I haven't ready Brian's book. On the whole, what did the chapter say about the QPR era ?

The shows were good but no one wanted to hear a new album, about sums up what Brian wrote about QPR.

People would like to hear a new album. It's just a shame they produced a pretty crap one. Take the Roger songs off it and it was amongst the worst things released that year.

Ouch.
I don't know what expectations Q+PR had for the album...or even the fans, I know when news broke about the album I was surprised that they did a studio album. Listening to it was more of a surprise, I thought it would be more gritty, balls to wall type stuff, and we'll it wasn't :-P .
Sometimes I feel I wish Q+PR only released ROTC. That to me is one of the best things Q+PR did. Although I wish the Hyde Park concert was recorded and released too. I've heard good things from people who attended that show.
I can't imagine Q+PR ever coming together again, which I think is a shame. I miss those times.

I was only just becoming a fan when Paul Rodgers sang with Queen. I tried so badly to convince my parents to take me to see them in Philly (the one where Brian breaks his strings at the start of the show - Tie Your Mother Down, I think). But they said no. And it pissed me off so much. But then the day after the concert a friend of mine dropped by the house. His parents had went to the concert and they brought me back a tour shirt. Yay!

I never did get to see them live. But I was certainly mesmerized by Return of the Champions and can remember the day I saw them perform Imagine (Hyde Park, I think?). Magical times indeed. And the build up to the new album was intense for me. I don't care what people say. It was a good album. Poorly advertised, and perhaps Brian should have stuck to his harder side, but overall that album gives me fond memories. I heard C-lebrity once on my local hard rock radio station...and then that was it. Lol

Would I like to see them get back together again (even for one song)? Meh...honestly. It'd be cool, for sure. I loved the collaboration, but I just want to move on and I doubt it'd happen anyway. I'm very happy with them being tight with Adam Lambert. I know it's controversial, but I think he's the best thing to happen to our band in a long while, and I hope it lasts a few more years.

I'm not going to get into a discussion over the relative merits of TCR, if you didn't like it fine. But I think Brian is right. I don't think the general public were chomping at the bit to hear a new "Queen" record and were then disappointed that it turned out to not be very good. Think it was more that they didn't want to hear it in the first place if it didn't involve Freddie.
