Sheer Heart Attack box in 2018?

Postby Mustapha » Sat May 12, 2018 12:53 am

So in the news section there's a piece about a cover band playing Sheer Heart Attack in full at the Freddie Mercury's birthday party. We all know that event is always used as the launching pad for the big release that following fall, so is that a sign of what's to come?

By the way, if a SHA box is indeed coming, I hold no expectations, specially after last year debacle with NotW.

I wouldn't have thought a cover band playing an album in full is a sign of anything myself. Except hopefully a great show.

Besides, the album is 44 years in 2018.
In 2024 maybe, but by then who knows if physical products still excist?

While there were releases in 2014, 2015 and 2017 that were 40th anniversary releases, I don't think there's any rule that a release has to be in a big anniversary year. Surely if they wanted to do a Sheer Heart Attack boxset this year, they would just do it.

I mean, I don't think they will or anything but I don't think they are constrained by the date either.

A soundboard recording of this would be nice.

After the News of the World set, I'm not sure I'd be bothered about an overpriced Sheer Heart Attack one.

The only Queen-related set I'd be especially interested in now is the long-rumoured solo one from Brian.* It's such a shame that the group's solo box sets have so comprehensively shat on what the band itself has put out in that department.

* Oh, and the anthologies, but I'm pretty sure that ain't ever gonna happen :lol:

Where is the Live Killers boxet I read about some years ago?!?^^ I want THAT! ;)

Going by anniversary, it would rather be the turn of "Jazz"...which would fit to something Live Killers related! :)

I think they should do a SHA box with the album on cd, vinyl and the november 74 Rainbow (as released in 2014) as a bonus. Also included a replica of the SHA single and a picture book with all the relevant pics of Queen during 1976.
Price: 125 euro.

Thinking about it, NOTW was the first 40th Anniversary Set. Previous albums couldn't have one of those, and the last album would come out 18 years later if that's what we were sticking with.

So if they do want to give each album the NOTW 40th treatment, they just have to use different anniversary points (which is why personally I'd maybe tone down the whole '40th/50th/30th' element). And given there are several similarly high profile artists releasing more than one of these types of set a year, there's nothing to say they HAVE to stick to just one. If they jumped to two big releases a year, they could have everything out in the next 8 or 9 years.

2017 - News of the World 40th
2018 - Jazz 40th {but surely we'd have heard rumblings by now?}
2019 - The Miracle 30th | Queen II 45th
2020 - The Game 40th | Flash Gordon 40th
2021 - Innuendo 30th | A Kind of Magic 35th
2022 - Hot Space 40th | The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (?) 30th
2023 - Queen 50th | The Singles Collection {some kind of 50th compilation of all their singles}
2024 - Sheer Heart Attack 50th | The Works 40th
2025 - A Night at the Opera 50th | Made in Heaven 30th
2026 - A Day at the Races 50th | The Magic Tour (Wembley/Knebworth/Budapest box) 40th

Jeez, Made in Heaven 25th anniversary coming up. I still think of it as recent. In 2020 it will be the half way point of Queen forming and present day.

Pretty sure one probably doesn't exist. I was in the mixing desk area that night, as I was the DJ for the night. The only kit I saw that looked capable of recording anything half decent, was my own mini-disc set up, and not saying they didn't trust me, but they unplugged my feed from the PA, just before Brian came on.
