Is this true?!?!?!?!

https://movieweb.com/oscars-academy-awards-queen-refuse-bohemian-rhapsody/

Queen Turned Down Offer to Open Oscars with Bohemian Rhapsody Tribute

If this is true it's a shame. I always had the dream of them playing at the oscars! They won't have another chance to play at the oscars........unless they write a Bond song with Adam Lambert.... :-D

Oh for Pete's sake! This is a quote from part of that article, above.

Even though there is not yet an official comment by Queen about the rejection, it's almost assuredly due to the new sexual allegations against Bohemian Rhapsody director Bryan Singer. Not only that, Queen guitarist Brian May had originally defended Singer, but he has since come back on those comments as the allegations became increasingly extreme. So despite the band turning down the exciting chance of opening the Oscars, it does make plenty of sense.

Damn them! Why did they have to bring that into the picture without knowing the reason why!

It seems they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Screw the media.

I'm not sure playing their the Oscars would make a great deal of sense even without the Singer issue -

1. While Oscars themselves are still a big deal, the ceremony itself is becoming increasingly outdated and less watched. Queen have nothing to gain from playing.
2. It's the wrong atmosphere for Queen - lots of people in evening dress who are not there to listen to music.
3. They don't have a song in competition, and there has apparently been a proposal that some of the songs that are in competition won't get a hearing - it would be wrong for Queen to sing an old song when the new songs in competition need the exposure more.
4. They would be playing with Adam Lambert, who has very little to do with this or any other movie, not Freddy.
5. The Oscars are struggling to organise the ceremony this year, and don't have a compere. A (presumably) last minute offer to Queen is a bit insulting.
6. Brian and Roger have I think already been invited as guests not performers (Brian's Instagram had him getting suited up for it after the nominations were announced). Not surprising if they would want to enjoy the ceremony as guests rather than having to work.
7. If the opportunity only came up recently (presumably since the nominations were announced 10 days ago) it's a very short period in which to organise and rehearse a performance from scratch.

Now the invitation seems to be public, though, it would be probably wise for Queen to put something out along the lines of "honoured to be asked, would have liked to do it but regret we just couldn't see a way to make it work the way we would want".

It'll be interesting to see how Queen performing on the Oscars affects the ratings. I hope they find a way to involve the cast members in it.

This is great for everyone involved...the show, the band, the cast and film crew. You might have some people argue that the Oscars are playing favorites by having the band perform, but it'd be a missed opportunity for them not to perform.

Vindication my friends! Haha! Good old Freddie gets the last laugh at the US critics! I love this and would have NEVER believed this would ever happen! Wow!

Too bad they weren't the halftime show at the Super Bowl this year. Would have been a perfect environment. Oh well...

I really look forward to it!
However, even established artists (to put it mildly) like Paul McCartney or Sting always seem a bit out of place at the Oscars.

For sure - Hollywood isn't really Roger or Brian's scene. But if they can play American Idol, they'll play the Oscars.
