Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Is there any News on how Queen are doing sales wise, currently, it's gone a little quiet out there. Does anyone know Queen sales versus other main artists per country please?

I‘m no expert, but I like to have a look at this page from time to time. Some nice stats there, though it’s mostly iTunes, youtube and Spotify.

Ok, so Bohemian Rhapsody is going to be massive. Biggest biopic in history so far. I'm estimating at least 300 million dollars worldwide. We shall know better come Sunday.

According to MediaTraffic

http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums-week44-2018.htm

in the first week it has sold 66,000 copies worldwide.

KNIGHT wrote:In the UK charts:

19,500 copies for Bohemian Rhapsody
11,382 copies for The Platinum Collection
3,155 for Greatest Hits
1,944 for A Night At The Opera

It's the best result from Queen since 2009 Absolute Greatest. Considering the 25,000 copies sold by Andrea Bocelli, if The Platinum Collection and Greatest Hits had been removed from the market in order to "advantage" Bohemian Rhapsody, we would have probably had another Queen album at the number 1 since Made In Heaven. Personally I'm glad about this decision of maintainig all the compilations on the market.

Queen's sales spike from the film is okay, but nothing special. Although the the film will no doubt boost sales/streams for the next few years, it is surely now true to say there is nothing left that Queen can do to boost sales of their catalogue again. The film was basically $50 Million of free promo. The sales hike combination of Freddie dying and Wayne's World had a massive effect on sales in 91/92. Classic Queen sold hugely in the States because of the knock-on effect of one scene in Wayne's World, whereas this $50 Million of promotion has had only a modest effect.

Other than (hypothetically) recording new material with Adam Lambert or other artists, Queen's sales will peak this year and slowly fade away over the next few years.

Well said, Peace Loving Guy. I think this (the BR movie) is „a last hurrah“ for the band. Sure, they will go on tour or maybe two, release a few more box sets/ archival footage etc or even record a new album with AL- but for the guys that are in their seventies, they will never again have such an exposure as they're having today, all because of the movie. It is being shown in almost every country in the World and also being talked about on every possible platform (TV, social networks, newspapers etc). It doesn't get any greater/better than that. So, this is why I see this as the last real opportunity for the major boost in sales and general public's interest in Queen back catalogue. Now, don't get me wrong- people will always buy/stream/download/whatever Queen music, but on what level…?!
In 6 months time, I would love to see the numbers- how much they've sold because of the BR movie effect.
At this very moment, Queen have 2 albums in top 10 and 2 more in top 60 on UK charts while 1 in top 30 and 1 in top 90 on Billboard (this numbers will improve in the following week or two).
Is it OK- yes it is, am I impressed- no I'm not. To be honest, I was expecting a bit more. Oh well, maybe I need a reality check… :)

I just wanted to comment on the previous comments. I think Queen are doing incredible well. The movie, is doing massive business worldwide. It will eventually become the biggest biopic ever.

When it comes to their sales you need to forget physical sales, but if you really want to see how popular they are becoming then look at Kworb.com, it will show you that Queen right now are the most streamed and downloaded artist on the planet. For a band that lost their singer in 1991, that is incredible. They are second only to the Beatles in terms of worldwide popularity and I would even argue that they challenge them amongst younger people.

Things obviously will settle down and they will go back to their natural levels but this film has introduced their music to a whole new generation of people across the planet.

Finally I cannot think of another band/artist that could produce as a compelling story as this. It will be the biopic that other biopics will be measured up against for decades. Also an A cinema score and 84% rating on IMDB, this will run well through November into December. It is a resounding success and the critics once again got it wrong.
