Promovideos were around and quite popular already in the 60s.

Probably because it was the first to really have a visible impact on selling the record.

Yeah, there were loads of promos before it, The Beatles did a few, It's Only Rock And Roll by The Rolling Stones, Elected by Alice Cooper, but in Queen's case, the video was probably THE deciding factor that it made #1 in the UK. The earlier ones didn't really exploit the method of getting it across.

They did one for the B side Rain, at the same time.
