It didn't start in the 80's because I grew up hearing, "Theme From Mahogany", The Morning After" and "Ben".

Sure, but it definitely reached its peak then. Even the James Bond movies made in the 80s had a bunch of songs written specifically for them beyond the title track, to the point where they started putting a second song over the end credits. I think Licence to Kill had three or four songs penned for it.

It wasn't just movies either - Miami Vice had songs written specifically for it and which never appeared anywhere else.

They use that 'Come And Get Your Love' by Redbone, on an ebay ad over here.

Much as though I quite like 'Witch Queen Of New Orleans', i find 'Come And Get Your Love' a tad annoying, because however you try to decipher the words, you always return to "What's the matter with your hair?"

The lyrics you find on websites seem to make even less sense. Hail?

A mate of mine once said to me Dylan is a fantastic songwriter, but the only good Dylan songs are covers.
