Why is it interesting?

Well, if its the standard Portugal early pressing, there shouldn't be any track banding, in other words, like The Beatles White Album, and Abbey Road, each side is cut as one track.

I say "should" because I have two Portuguese pressings of Queen II, and both of them are made like that.

I'm not sure of any other officially pressed studio albums where this is the case.

Hi. I wonder if this is a conversation that's been had before but there's a seller on eBay called something like freddieforever and I've noticed they're constantly selling some very interesting items, promos, limited editions, rare items etc. Is there a story behind it because I've noticed they sell the same items again and again and it makes me wonder when it's like a rare promo copy, where do they all come from and how did they end up with so many?

Hmmm, good question.

I remember being in a collector's shop in Portsmouth, and talking to the owner about Queen. He himself was a big fan, and he received a parcel while I was stood there. It contained about ten brand spanking new copies of the the Irish 7" of Man On The Prowl/Keep Passing The Open Windows. I found out after the event, that this is in the top ten rarest Queen singles about, and this bloke had just received a box of them, so it DOES happen.

This freddieforever person does seem to get interesting stuff in large quantities, which suggests he knows a lot of people who might have got supplied the same way as the person who sent this box of singles to the guy in Portsmouth.

On the other side of the coin, are things like the story of "someone" who claimed they found a box of Larry Lurex singles, and on closer examination, they all turned out to be recently pressed counterfeits.

There's someone on the net, might even be freddieforever, I'd have to check, who keeps selling UK singles in so called limited edition Spanish sleeves in almost industrial quantities. Technically, the sleeves might be indeed printed in Spain, but the fact they all seem to contain the UK pressings of the singles, makes me doubt there's anything even slightly official about them, as EMI Spain had their own pressing plant, so logically would have put Spanish records in Spanish sleeves, wouldn't they?

I know this guy. He's very active on Facebook as well buying (or at least bidding on) most items that come up for sale. I've bought from him several times (no super rare stuff though) and sold to him a few, and it's always a good experience.

As for the "Spanish" sleeves I imagine that they are produced in Spain and then fitted with a UK single in one place or the other. He always mentions that they are unofficial though - does the same with Russian flexi's.

I remember when they first started appearing on eBay, they were going for forty to fifty quid a pop, sell a couple of hundred of them, and that isn't bad if you've got a decent printer and laminator set up.

Get a few decent old pictures of the band, know the various typesets the band used, a couple of packs of reasonable quality printing card, and you're cooking on gas. Do it right, pick up on the top twenty most collectable artists and you'd possibly never have to actually work for a living again.
