Too Much Love from Brian or Too Much Love from Fred?!

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Any version with a string quartet would be amazing! I prefer Brian's version. The tribute concert version was the first that I heard and still beats either studio version for me. You can't duplicate the emotion or the atmosphere of a performance like that.
Here we go, tellin' lies...

Compare the original version of '39 from ANATO, to the Live Killers version. Freddie brings something new to the song, but is it better than Brian's ANATO version? I personally don't think so.

hmmm, I do...Freddie's vocals & intonations are more rhythmic to me... the '79 (Kampuchea) version is even better than the Live Killers version, effortless but dramatic...I also enjoy Freddie's Too Much Love better than Brian's .

Looks like I'm in the minority again, but I prefer the Queen recording. Brian's version is still great, but I like the more rocking take. Still, I'll happily listen to either.

I'm surprised I never posted. I heard Brian's first. It's tough to make a decision.
-I prefer Brian's piano and strings especially over the 80s keyboard which made the song sound like Doogie Howser.
-Freddie's voice is by far more powerful - but Brian's does have a bit more personal feeling to the song.
- I much prefer the rockier section - actually my favorite overall arrangement would have the Brian studio beginning, and the Brian live 1992-1993 ending.

I guess I have to choose Brian's overall but I still think a duet would have been even better :D

I've always felt a bit let down by the Freddie vocal version - it just doesn't have the emotion that one would expect in it. I don't really like Brian's vocals on the studio track either - live is a different matter.

Wow I had no idea that Brian's version is that likable among fans...I actually don't like it much, Freddie's version is my choice. I know Brain wrote the song but somehow I feel he is "too" emotional when singing it, and Freddie has, in my opinion anyway, the perfect kind of emotion this song needs to be sung. So I prefer Freddie's version.

Freddie's version. It's phenomenal, a masterpiece. Brian sounds like a badger on a hot tin roof.

Freddie's version sounds world weary which is what I like about it.

My ideal version would be a hybrid of the two.
Freddie's voice (don't think Brian can sing that well at all) and Brian's guitar from his original solo version.

This came up on my Twitter today:

“26 years ago the #FreddieMercury tribute concert was held in London "to celebrate the life, and work, and dreams, of one Freddie Mercury". Alongside other items it included the first live performance of "Too Much Love Will Kill You" by #BrianMay. @OIQFC”

Like with All Dead, I think Brian's version is the better one. His version feels more honest and straight from the heart. Might have something to do with Brian being the composer of both songs.
