It's all about perspective. Imagine in your first season in Formula One, you get a drive as current world champion Fernado Alonso's team mate. Fernando has the best side of the garage, stategists, mechanics, priority on car parts.

Over the season, rookie boy outscored the world champion, and very nearly won it himself. After a couple of years, he won a world title, in a sub-standard car, and showed the potential that if he could communicate well with better designers, between them they could make a dominent partnership, in a way no constructor/driver combination had previously done on that level..

That's Hamilton, and the remnants of the Brawn team.

Sebastian Vettel had almost a similar relationship with Adrian Newey, and his design team

I think they mean raised rather than lifted.

I did wonder.

The days of people setting lap records by taking a shortcut through the pits are long gone

Interesting, should make for better racing. Glad they're not touching the golf course as they continually trying to do.

I stumbled across this video about the evolution of pit stops last night. Quite an interesting watch (he's done quite a few good videos).

On the subject of pit stops, my girlfriend and I got to have a go with the Mercedes crew at Silverstone once. We managed to change a wheel (one of the smaller old ones) in something like 2.6 seconds, which we thought was terribly impressive.

Until they told us they do it in 1.3.
