Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

She Makes Me???

Postby ny_killer_queen » Sat Jun 26, 2010 3:19 am

Hey guys, Just a quick question. The song "She Makes Me (Stormtropper in Stilettos)" Does the title really mean Stormtrooper In Stilettos??? I ask b/c i am getting a new tattoo and want to do a female stormtropper in stilettos and want to make sure the means is the literal meaning. Ok i hope this names sence, I kind of ramble on and on..LOL...Like now so I will stop ;-)

Well I can tell you its nothing to do with Stormtroopers that are in Star Wars as the song was written well before SW was released. More to do with military stormtroopers I would say. Maybe Brian is describing a certain type of woman who is harsh/strict. :-)

I think Brian wrote the song about his mother.

I've never heard conclusively why Brian wrote the song, but I can tell you that the subtitle was Freddie's idea and only a bit of nonsense.

If you'd still like a tattoo based on this song, I might suggest an interpretation of the "New York nightmare" sound collage at the end, or perhaps a favorite lyric.

Apparently the 'Stormtrooper in Stillettoes' coment was addded to the song title because of the sound of Rogers' drumming on the track

Swoon!

This is definitely one of my fave Brian songs. So hypnotic.

Thanks for the bits of Queen trivia, guys.

:)
I still love you.

Well i had 3 ideas 1) The stormtrooper in stilletos...that did not turn out well . 2) The Lyric "When your feeling down and your resistance is low, light another cigarette and let yourself go" or 3) The Army gurl on the 82 backstage pass

One of those rare songs I always skip - over the past 30 years much of the Queen canon that in the beginning left me cold now warms my heart - especially Roger's work, but there's something about this dirge I've just never got. It spoils Sheer Heart Attack for me.

I agree with you about this track - it's truly dreadful, for me. I've always loved the tenderness of Brian's voice, but here he just sounds off-key and terrible.

The song just...bores me. It's hypnotically awful. Weakest link on the record, bar none. Maybe the weakest song on those first 3 albums.

I'm not a fan either, it slows all the momentum the album had down to a grinding halt.

But you never know, that could change one day.

Mark me as one in the minority. Love the track. So different than anything they've done - moody, atmospheric and textured...

This is a song that I really try to get into and find something to latch onto, but it's futile. I think it's more interesting theoretically than literally to sit and hear (those four minutes seem like an eternity). It's like an experiment that Brian didn't go all out with and it becomes maddening quickly. It really does ruin the otherwise great energy and flow of a great album. And I love Brian's tender, melancholic voice/songs but here he sounds awkward and out of it.
