SHEER HEART ATTACK LP (vinyl collectors guide)

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Here is one of my better photos I think, showing the 3 SHA gatefold LP versions :)

It shows the 2 Venezuela LP's (one with blue writing inside, and one with black), and also the original French LP (obviously the top one in the photo).

Hot Space is actually only my 6th favourite Queen album.
(But is a very underrated album in my opinion).

Here are 2 original SHA Scandanavian LP versions. The first is the Danish version, the sleeve is identical to the UK sleeve, and the label is also very similar but says "Made In Denmark" on it, so this one is only really for completists

The second one is the original Swedish LP, this time the sleeve and inner are made in Sweden though, which it does actually state on the back cover as seen below!

Because America is so vast, the Warner-Elektra-Atlantic-Asylum group of labels, had their stuff made at a number of pressing plants.

Might find out a bit more here... http://www.atsf.co.uk/elektra/index.html

Thanks, and I've just been through all my worldwide SHA LP's to check which were cut by The Mastering Lab (TML), and the following were:-

UK
Greece
Israel
Italy (first pressing)
Mexico (first pressing only)
Holland (first pressing only)
Portugal
South Africa
Sweden
Yugoslavia

So that's 10 out of the 25 countries I could check, so in fact lots of the worldwide EMI versions were first cut by TML, maybe they did a combined deal with The Mastering Lab? None of the Elektra worldwide SHA LP versions were cut by TML interestingly.

The Denmark version is also a Mastering Lab (TML) pressing!

I don't think OCD is a big thing for Queen fans though, just me and literally a few others going by this thread!

Like I said before if you want to see OCD, check out the Beatles or Pink Floyd websites and message boards

Here is the original SHA LP version from Israel, and it is a Mastering Lab (TML) pressing, one of very few of these that isn't on EMI, in fact possibly the only one that isn't on EMI?

Technically not on EMI, but the catalogue number IS an EMI one.

Portrait (a CBS label, as I remember) licence pressed EMI releases in Israel, at that time, the same way a lot of labels in the Eastern block used to.

I've got an ANATO from Israel, also on the Portrait label, and I think they've used a UK generated mastering plate for it.

Thanks, haha even after talking about EMI, I failed to spot the catalogue number there :?

This is actually quite a weird pressing

It's the final SHA German LP pressing from the mid/late 80's, guessing about 1986.

It is definitely German EMI, but amazingly made in the UK (sleeves and labels), and a UK 6U/7 pressing!

So in summary this "black label" German pressing isn't infamous, but is a bit odd.

It's a bit like the Freddie Mercury Remixes album that was released in Holland and Germany about the time Fred was #1 with Living On My Own. All the European copies I've ever seen all say Made In UK on them, but it was only ever sold here as an expensive import.

So the f*ckers shipped it to Amsterdam, then shipped it back and sold it in HMV for about twelve quid.

I've just seen The Complete Works lp box for sale in a small independent music shop.
They are asking £100 for it.
I haven't inspected the records, I wouldn't even know what I'm looking for, but the outer box looks reasonable, couple of corners slightly scuffed.

Fair price, anyone?

I've seen them much cheaper than £100 on e-bay, being honest.

I figured as much. Personally I've never even owned my own record player so the only record I ever bought was MIH on the Ivory vinyl.
To be expected I guess for a record shop in a small, expensive town. The town is not tiny, is fairly busy but unusual in that you'll not find a single chain or known high street brand shop anywhere. Even the supermarket was founded within the town in the 30s.
So if there's no MacDonalds, Starbucks etc. and not even a Tesco let alone M&S or Waitrose, but everyone has money, then you can expect the independent record shop to price up a bit lol.

Cheers Kes.

£100 in excellent condition is OK, unless one of the LP's inside is signed by all 4 of them (apparently 600 of these?), in which case it is worth about £1000
