A little news about the covid Mk2 variant, and how they think it might have evolved. Edited from a BBC news report.
"...some clues to how the variant evolved, perhaps in a patient with a weakened immune system who was unable to fight off the virus enabling it to linger in the body for several months, accumulating mutations along the way."
So, there lies the possibility that people "can" be infectious for months AND asymptomatic. Now that's something I didn't previously know.

This new one is scary AF!
Re: In The News Today...
Yeah, it gets even more scarier when the figures tell you it actually is all around you.

So I’m amazed they are able to test and distinguish between two different types already.

Probably won't come as a surprise to anyone that Russia has been dramatically under-reporting it's COVID death toll, and the actual number of victims is something like three times the official figure, per the country's deputy PM.
Rather worryingly, even after the adjustment they've still only had around a third of the deaths the US has had.

To be honest, I think all countries are doing their best to underplay it all. Not on the same scale as old Russia of course.Leigh Burne wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 10:13 pm Probably won't come as a surprise to anyone that Russia has been dramatically under-reporting it's COVID death toll, and the actual number of victims is something like three times the official figure, per the country's deputy PM.

Because this is not just a health issue - it is a psychological one too. Governments will be working very hard to keep the bad information down to a minimum in order to keep public peace. It's like they drip-feed us what they have to.
Just wait til the aliens land next year too! Happy days.
