Bass guitar on Body Language

Has someone got any idea what kind of bass John is using on this song live and in studio ? Was it recorded with synthesizer, or was it a fretless Fender bass with effects added?

In the studio, it was Frederick playing the bass-line on a Jupiter 8 synth. John didn't even perform on this recording, nor he did on a few others from 'Hot Space', an album he strongly disliked (with good reason) but for which he's almost always mis-blamed.

Live, it was Morgan/Fred playing the bass-line on a Jupiter 8, with John doubling some parts on his Fender Precision Special.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger did not compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

You're probably right, but my recollection of seeing/hearing this song was that John Used his Musicman (for at least 1 or 2 of the performances.

I'm happy to take your word for it. I seem to remember an extremely brief (1-2 sec) video on American television which showed this song and John was with the Fender P-Special. But then again, it might've been a one-off. Considering he used the Music Man for Dust and Back Chat, perhaps it would've made sense for him to play it on BL as well, to keep some sort of sonoric consistency.

I bet the music for some of the Commodore 64 video games was created with the Jupiter 8.
And I suspect Queen used this for the opening sounds of the Hot Space concerts.

Break Free - Yes.

Flash - No. It hadn't been invented. They used an Oberheim OB-X instead. It can be seen on the Flash video, mimed by Brian, and both Brian and Fred used it for the tours over Japan and South America in early 1981. The next time they toured (they played some gigs in one country in South America and two in North America that autumn) they'd already switched to the Jupiter 8.

I read somewhere that Body Language was “inspired” by the Change track “Searching”. What do you think?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-JM08vVFSI

Apparently, Searching was released a single and was a big club hit.
