Other bands that are like Queen.

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Other bands that are like Queen.

Postby Anders Jensen » Thu Mar 16, 2017 10:14 pm

Which if any other bands or solo artist reminds you the most of Queen, musically? and in general?

( We should not consider the many cover bands, and the Queen members independent of Queen )

My own answer to my question is:

The Darkness reminds a little of Queen, but not so much that I can say that fans of the Darkness would probably also like some of Queens music. Some of Queens songs from the 80's reminds me a little of Michael Jackson's music, but usually better. Motherlove reminds a bit of Pink Floyd. Some one I used know, thought that Europe's The Final Countdown was a Queen song.

Their second album, One Way Ticket to Hell... and Back, sounds very Queen in a lot of places.

Very Queen-like song from 1966, by The Beatles. 7 years before the first Queen album.
Queen was inspired by The Beatles, and it shows in many of their songs.

I'm kinda paraphrasing a lot of what Wild/Wind said.....

But The Darkness is one of my favorite bands, and I can't help but hear a huge Queen influence in them. Remember who their current drummer is, after all....lol. And hell, look what Justin Hawkins has tattooed on his freaking hand!.

And Extreme, for sure. Whenever they put the funk-metal aside they often sounded very Queen-inspired. Def Leppard, too. Also, let's not forget Metallica....covered Stone Cold Crazy, and even won a Grammy Award for it, at that.

I know, I'm bloody crazy on here at times. As soon as I logged off I thought 'I bet I think of another straight away - y'know a real obvious one and I'll kick myself.' But no, nothing.
Not blowing my own trumpet, but I was the brass bandleader at HMP Ford when I did a stint there a few years back - without even playing a note.

You are not wrong! You are not just crazy though; you are also brimming over with wit and comedic brilliance. Don't beat yourself up about not coming up with anything else: it would be very hard to top that original line-up or add anything as hilarious!

And a brass bandleader as well as a comedy giant? I hope you go all the way: sign up for X Factor and take that title, fella! No one would be able to stop you!

And if you need a manager then feel free to contact me. I have never been a manager before. But I am a gynaecologist so I do possess some experience of working with you types. Laterz cuz.

Most bands find a style they're comfortable with and they rarely leave. Metallica would never write a samba song. Eminem would never try singing heavy metal. Scorpions, bless 'em, have only ever written two songs - the Rock Anthem and the Power Ballad.

Queen are different. In 15 albums and as many solo albums, they have tried every conceivable style of music - from opera and jazz, to heavy metal, rap and samba; from classic blues-rock to conceptual space rock; they were a glam rock band, a punk rock band and an 80s pop group. They really could and did do it all.

Look at The Works - all the different styles they put into a single album. I defy anyone to tell me the name of any group that could put out an album like that and not disappoint their fans, and moreover - that album gave the band a number of hit songs.

I'm sorry, but there's no other band that's "like Queen", no other band I know.
