Similarity Between TSMGO and Thumbs by Sabrina Carpenter

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Similarity Between TSMGO and Thumbs by Sabrina Carpenter

Postby ThrwAwayForTheCause » Thu Mar 30, 2017 12:13 pm

Hello, been lurking for some time. Tried to make an account on the other forums but never received an email, props to the admins over here for accepting me.

Firstly, I am aware of the influence Pachelbel's Canon has on The Show Must Go On by Queen (although I've never noticed where it occurs, perhaps in the middle). But, I have noticed a correlation between the beginnings of Thumbs by Sabrina Carpenter and TSMGO.

I totally like the song Thumbs (and Sabrina) and looooove Queen, so hopefully you guys could lend some analysis and perspective on their association.

Wanted to say that a lot of young people know (and enjoy) the music of Queen and respect them (especially the legacy of Freddie Mercury).

Additionally, since having this opportunity, wanted to give a shoutout to Seb! Your encyclopedic memory is amazing and it's mind blowing how your able to decipher between fact, speculation, and lies. Also, really enjoy your covers, wish you did more in your current style (as opposed to mass creating many covers in a short time). Your blending of deep and high voices is really pleasing. (BTW, how do you play the Spanish Guitar soo fast?)

Okay, thank you all for reading and your insight on these songs. <3

I think it's true , there is something similar: it comes fom the color of the strings, and it has also a similar tempo and similar progression of chords... As not an expert I can not say in details :)

By the way, if anyone is interested, there is a song from a french singer which has some similar sounds, than the intro of Show Must Go On... It always fascinated me. https://youtu.be/ARQwEdER4qI
(It comes after the first verse) The harmonies are also a bit different...

I doubt she knows, or cares, who Queen are. Not that she had anything to do with writing that. There's just a passing resemblance.

If you're gonna cover a Brian-penned Queen song, at least grow some poodle hair:

How about Never Tear Us Apart by INXS?

Have always thought there's a bit more than a passing resemblence on that and TSMGO. BTW the INXS one was first.

The "similarity" is in the intro.. the synth chords.

I'm hearing that also. Quite the catch, considering it's a foreign song.

Wow you're right! That is quite the coincidence there, it seems this is the earliest establishing sound, unless of course INXS developed the sound from someone else's work. Thanks!

What about One Vision's intro?
