Queen Songs Improved with Alternate Edits/Mixes

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Not a Queen song, but close... I find the shorter version of The Fallen Priest much more listenable than the full-length one in Barcelona.
I've made a huge mistake

Oh, thanks for calling that out. I'd somehow never heard it.

It was a synth.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger did not compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

What actually precedes the synth, Seb?

Poor old action will go away otherwise thinking it's something it isn't.

Nothing precedes it. The very first thing fading in is a synthesiser.

Play it backwards from the bit where Freddie starts singing.

Just my opinion, but I "think" they're bells of some description. I'm on about the bits alternately panned far left and far right. The bit I'd agree is a synthesiser, is mixed in the middle.

Just before Fred starts singing there's a reversed snare roll. Otherwise, as far as I remember, it's just layers of synth pads.

Just play it backwards

... and then tell me "Oh, it's just a synthesiser pretending to be bells".

Still sounds like bells or some sort of noted percussion instrument to me, that curiously sound a bit synthetic when played backwards, in other words, forwards on the record. Is there a preset on the OBX called "Chinese Bells" or something similar? If there is, they're still played backwards on that intro.

There's a couple of instances on that album, where something that sounds like a synthesiser, isn't a synthesiser. AOBTD has a couple of backwards piano notes in it, at some points, played backwards to create a crescendo that then stops abruptly.

Sounds like cymbal swells backwards rather than a snare drum

It's actually all of the above now that I hear it: reversed cymbals, a reversed snare roll, backwards synths and forwards synths.

By the way, 'Dust' has some effects which are not synths, but it's also got effects which are synths.

Completely agree. Glad we came to a compromise. :-)

Yeah, totally. A really good 12" mix.
