Can anyone tell me how many typical copies of uk 7” promo singles were pressed prior to shop stock copies being pressed please?..... also which single was last in line to be pressed as a demo record not for sale on the label?

It varies. Some singles had the stuff printed into the labels in a contrasting colour, others just had a red and white sticker put on, some even had numbers of both.

Working out how many radio stations and relevant PR agencies needed these non-revenue copies, I wouldn't have thought they generally pressed many more than about a hundred per release.

I'd guess people have tended to hold onto the ones they think will be definitive, as you just don't get to see copies of Bo Rhap with the "demo only" print in the middle of the record, these days.

Last one I remember seeing with the print on it, apart from exclusive jukebox copies like Heaven For Everyone, is probably stuff from The Works.
