Thing is... One of these groups went on to be probably the third biggest group in the world ever, behind the Beatles and the Stones, and it wasn't Mott.

And there lies the story of why they started writing their own songs.

Led Zep or Floyd were also on the bill then?

They might be on "your" bill, if you're half the duck you seem to think you are.

Me, I base how big a band are, by how collectable their music is. Have you ever bought Record Collector magazine, or do you just get the ones from the top shelf, with the open legs shots in them?

Zeppelin and Floyd? Very good, very good! :-)

I wouldn't know about Zeppelin, but Floyd... collectors of Floyd music and memorabilia really put us (Queen collectors) to shame.

Having said that, my list is exactly the same: Beatles. Stones, Queen, Floyd, LedZep...

You’re all right and, more importantly, you’re all wrong.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ ... ic_artists

I’d have been wrong as well if I’d guessed before looking. I’m very surprised the Rolling Stones are so low down.

I didn't say "best selling", I think I said "most collectable".

Well originally you just said ‘biggest’, which could mean anything really.

‘Most collectible’ is probably a fair criterion because it’s relatively easy to measure. Personally the question I’d ask is almost impossible to measure: How many consecutive nights could they sell out at a stadium, assuming instantaneous and free transport from around the world?

Personally I suspect the last act standing would probably be Jackson. I think Queen would beat the Stones and potentially even the Beatles.

Well considering the Stones can still pack out stadiums all over the world, I would sadly have them above Queen.
