Damn they were good!

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Damn they were good!

Considering how Freddie's vocals stole the show on this track, one can easily forget how powerful the music behind that vocal truly was!

An absolutely stunning backing track.

At the Innuendo - Back To The Tapes thing, they isolated some of the guitars going on in that last third of the song, and busy just doesn't describe it. I think Brian was pretty much on fire around that time, as a player, possibly more so than at any other time in his career.

john was on top of his game. brian was on top of his game. and roger was on top of his game.

freddie, he was godly.

i like how brian's guitars sound melancholic, strange and twisted. Like a melancholic carnival (further accentuated by the album artwork). hints of this sound can be found in "was it all worth it" which, to me, flows seemlessly into the innuendo sound.

it's not an album i can listen to very much. it's very heavy, in the emotional side of things. I prefer a "the works" over this, since generally i wanna have a good time when listening to music. innuendo is not such an album, but it is still an absolute masterwork. it's definately darker Queen work. It's art, it's heavy emotional rock and it definately has a place in their discography.

brilliant stuff

there are multitracks leaks somewhere, where there's many nuances on several of the guitar tracks.
The vocal tracks are stunning too. Both lead (OBVIOUSLY), and backing vocals

Further proof, that they were most certainly still on top of their game, just in case some might have thought that these then 40 somethings at the time, had lost their ability to still bring it all to the fore.

Why Brian and Roger decided against bringing this to their current tours has always baffled me. I sent a response to a tweet from Brian at one point when he posed the question to fans what songs they would like to hear some time back, and I asked for this one. He gave me a like, but it never appeared on tour. Shame.

I remember vaguely way back when attending a Queen Christmas event ( may have been the Cross Christmas party ? ) possibly at the Astoria London when we heard for the first time Innuendo, Headlong and Slightly Mad. It was awesome and totally blew everyone away. This was a 'shivers' down the spine moment. Innuendo remains one of my favorite albums to this day...happy days indeed.

Yes, December 1990. Slept in Waterloo Station later that night.
