Queen: The Final Show

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Queen: The Final Show

Postby musicalprostitute » Tue Jan 02, 2018 12:31 pm

So, with all this talk of them playing Wembley Stadium next year, I have been thinking that this may well be the last of the big gigs we will see from them (Brian is 71 this year and they cannot go on forever) - and what could be more fitting than Wembley Stadium?

Anyway, based on this assumption (and it is only an assumption obviously) I think it would be wonderful after the event to see a one-off, more intimate, televised gig with various performers alongside them. So if this did happen (and they did speak about something similar some years back - for ITV here in the UK I think) who would you like to see them perform with? I think they would definitely invite Rodgers and Lambert along, but what other performers could tackle these songs? And what songs would they be suited to?

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Tom Chaplin from Keane perform It's a Hard Life again (I think he was pretty damn brave to take that one on); Extreme could do Love Of My Life (as a nod back to the Freddie Tribute); Lady Gaga could nail Bo Rhap (I think she is quirky enough to do something special with that one)...

...those from the top of my head; I will add some more later.

So bittersweet, even hypothetical. I became a Queen fan mainly because of the Freddie Tribute. That's something that will always stay with me.
I would not mind a big send off with various artists. Some artists I would like to see... ( Some new, some not, not in order besides Elton John. )
Elton John
Rod Stewart
Extreme
Annie Lennox
Lady Gaga
The Killers
Katy Perry
Bryan Adams
Foo Fighters
Thunder
Madonna
Aretha Franklin
Montserrat Caballe
Boy George.
I will give my thoughts later today in which Queen songs I'd like those artists to sing. Gotta run in a bit. Great topic!

I forgot about The Killers. Wouldn't Aretha doing Somebody To Love be about one of the biggest tributes to Freddie ever? (He admired her so much).

I think the only ones on your list that would not appeal to me would be Thunder, Bryan Adams (Christ, he bores the fuck out of me) and Madonna (I don't think she can sing for shit); apart from those few, you and I are pretty much agreed on the others. :)

Aretha Franklin could do Somebody To Love.
Montserat could do Barcelona (the Brian May rock guitar mix),
Elton John could do Don't Stop Me Now or Play The Game.
Lady Gaga could do Innuendo or Killer Queen or I'm Going Slightly Mad or a lot of others.
Muse could do We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions.
Metallica could do Stone Cold Crazy.
Foo Fighters could do Hammer To Fall or Headlong.
Rod Stewart could do Spread Your Wings.
The Killers could do Radio Gaga.
Bryan Adams could do Breakthru.
Pink could do Bo Rhap.
Adele could do The Show Must Go On.
Katy Perry could do I Want To Break Free.
Michael Buble could do Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

Never heard the Scorps do Love Of My Life; I do like the lead singer's voice though. As for Maroon 5? I will have to respectfully disagree with you on that one! :P

Hmmm...I do like some of your choices, I have to confess. I never thought about Adele, but I think she could nail TSMGO. And the Foo Fighters could be pretty good on HTF. As for Muse doing WWRY and WATC? Inspired choice indeed. :)

I like the idea with various vocalists.
Dave Grohl would be there for sure. I just think they
should have a purpose for doing the show.
It reminds me of a tribute concert, but for who?

Well, I was thinking that it would be a lovely way to end their live career - a sort of tribute to their live majesty. Finish the big gigs with Adam and then do an intimate one, preferably televised; they could have an audience there asking questions about the genesis of some of the biggest numbers, etc. I just think for a band with a live reputation like Queen's this would be a good closing chapter.

I feel if they did a gig with all these artists, it would detract from it actually being their final show. And then whatever concert is was before that would be the 'real' final show.

I suppose the final Queen concert was 22 years ago anyway so maybe I'm overthinking it.

The Killers, are pretty good. I think they could pull off something like DLYH?
I didn't add Thunder just because they are one of my favorite bands. I have heard them do an amazing cover of CLTCL. I was very impressed by that. Probably one of my most played Queen coves honestly.
Oi! Poor Bryan  . The reason I added him is because he can do rock and pop pretty well. I'd give him AKOM.
Madonna...maybe something from Hot Space?

I wish Brian and Roger would end thier live career this way, but I think the will stick with Lambert as they have been doing. Which is kind of sad, because the music could suit other voices, and give other artists a chance to sing Queen songs. It's actually bittersweet to think about Brian and Roger retiring whenever that will be. I wouldn't mind a concert with just them to close their live career chapter.

What, are we all forgetting about The Darkness? You know if there's some sort of "Queen + multiple guests" concert, they'd be likely to be involved.

I don't think they will say a final show.
As long as they can play, they won't end.

If they are lucky to live 10 years from now, they
will be around 80 years old.

Be grateful for every year from now on..
