Body Language!

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Body Language!

Postby fairydandy » Sun Feb 04, 2018 8:54 pm

Oh my dear god, I just played it for some reason! It's still utter shit after all these years! What on earth were they thinking of? Freddie's vocals are stretched to the max and he sounds simply awful. It has nothing at all, nothing!

I like the music more than the lyrics and even vocals :tomato:. I don't hate the song, but it's nowhere near the best song Queen did. That's another song from HS I cannot tolerate at all, it's POTF that song is just shit, IMO. :-P

I like the song, I really do. But not as a Queen song. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's essentially a solo Freddie song. He composed and performed the bass line. It's a drum machine too -- was that programmed by Freddie?

The highlight of the song for me is the "You've got me" bit. And the video is very tongue in cheek...very uncomfortable for the rest of the band...but I love seeing Freddie in his element.

Also he borrowed the main riff from this 1981 disco song...

That's the problem with "experimenting", sometimes you go somewhere that transpires to be a lonely place.

Actually, as bad as the song is, there's flashes of it that you can hear in stuff that's been very successful since. The little stereo vocal interlude in the middle, is written all over a similar bit in the middle of Lady Ga Ga's Just Dance, to highlight just one. You can add to that, that even Freddie on a bad day, is better than a lot of these post Millenium "stars", on a fucking good one.

As regards it being a "Queen" song, the only bit I can hear that I can say probably isn't Freddie, are the little guitar figures as the track comes to an end.

But forgot how to learn.

He lost his way a bit didn't he? :? I suppose it was all those clubs in Munich! Nothing wrong with club music, but Freddie never quite got it right, in that respect.

I think it was Ian Hunter who once said of Queen that they had 'alarming lapses of taste' (or something like that). He wasn't wrong. And this stinker is testament to that. Awful song with an even more awful promo (the only time I have seen Freddie looking so sleazy and cheap. Ugh.).

Saying that, I think they had big balls: a rock band releasing something like BL. I have full respect for them doing what they wished...just think the outcome is sometimes shite.

Bah. I think it's great. Love it. It was a hit here (#11). Video is rather irksome, however. Y'all can fork off.

Isn't the lyric "Look at me (I've got a case of Body Language)"??

Not one of my favorites, but I never really HATED it. I bet it wouldn't have gotten nearly as much vitriol if it ended up as a Freddie solo song, which, as a few people have already said, it basically is already.

What the hell does "knock me down for a six anytime" mean, anyway? Do I even wanna know?

Well it should be "look at me." Lol But you're probably right. Haven't listened to the song in a while. I'll do that on my way home from work.

I'm still shocked it reached that high in the charts there, while other better songs didn't. It probably adds to my frustrations about the song.
