I remember a few years ago seeing The Game released on DVD-Audio. I regret not buying it. :-(

Yeah, that's true. I've read about how the prices of early VCRs were, like stuff that was before VHS and Beta, or even just the prices of early VHS and Beta stuff for that matter, and then you convert that to 2018 dollars. NOT in the price range of the average consumer! It seems a little strange nowadays....there was a time once when if you missed a TV show, you just missed it. Out of luck until a rerun comes around, if it does.

It sounds great, but ANATO is better (more use of multi-tracks means more opportunity to be ambitious in the 5.1 mix).

Unfortunately my current BR player won't play them. :(

Really? Why not?

It should play them in basic DVD mode, at the very least.

I remember when DVD came in and VHS went out, and suddenly you basically lost the ability to record off the TV. Sure, there were DVD recorder systems, but they were ridiculously expensive and I'm pretty sure we went through at least a couple in the family home (including this ridiculous model where the discs were permanently contained inside plastic housings like a giant version of an old computer floppy disc) and none ever really worked.

It wasn't until digital recorder devices came in that we really got that capability back.

Of course, back in the days when there was only two fucking channels broadcasting, you very rarely missed anything important, even with or without a video recorder. Unless of course, there was the two-horse race of the almost twice weekly power cuts going on because of the miners or the electricity workers striking for more pay.

MiniDisc is about as unusual as it gets, I think. They released all three GH albums in that format.

I still think it's a great format, being honest.

You can have a play and do some great stuff with it, for example, edit bits of songs into each other, like instrumentals into the standard songs, and with a sixth of a second accuracy, play it back, if you don't like it, shift the joins around a bit, and only then, save it.

I'm not sure I'd even call it that unsual. As far as failed formats go, it must have been one of the more successful ones. Well, I don't know, I don't have figures to back that up but I remember them in shops and that.

I don't know, maybe I should have called the thread "failed formats" or "obsolete formats"....I guess what I think of as being "unusual formats" are anything besides CDs, cassettes, or records.

To be fair, cassettes are an obsolete format.

Mini Disc was a fantastic format, I agree (although I was never lucky enough to own one), but it is obsolete. Any format where Queen released only the greatest hits albums, as opposed to their entire discography, is an unusual format in my opinion.

Anything outside of vinyl, CD, and musicassette, and video formats VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray, is an unusual format to me...

So that includes minidisc, reel to reel, 8-track cassettes, DAT, video disc, CDV, etc.

I used to have a great collection of Queen 8 tracks including a rare Canadian version of The Works. As this was years ago and I have (presumably) thrown them away, lost them or whatever I guess this is useless information. But I had everything from SHA to The Works, including (I think) Flash Gordon but I wouldn't swear to that.... Now I think about it maybe not Hot Space either... The Works 8 track is now, I believe, fairly rare. I wish I'd kept it.
