Queen+What was the Worst?

Serious discussion about the band known as QUEEN.

Queen+What was the Worst?

Postby JLP » Tue May 08, 2018 11:01 pm

Ages since I started a Queen related thread. Since Freddie died they have collaborated with many artists. Some very good, some good, some OK and some just, well bloody awful.

My worst still is the 5ive thing. Just crap. It was about the first thing I didn't buy after becoming a fan. I eventually got it as part of a job lot off Ebay and to this day, I have never played it.

Over to you.

Did they do a track with Crazy Frog or was that a dream/nightmare?

Oh, you kill me  I liked 5ive  :tomato:.
I don't know if this will count, but the blasted Pepsi advert and the Wyclef Jean remix crap of AOBTD.
Dare I say it, but the hypocrisy that I feel towards Idol type shows, and then to turn around to tour with Lambert.

That was truly awful, and the pepsi ad with Britney is a close second.

I feel particularly honoured to say I seem to have avoided most of these.

Me too. I saw the Olympics fiasco on the night. Needless to say the video of Freddies day on thing got a car better reaction.

The Crazy Frog thing had nothing to do with Queen.

We Are The Champions with Robbie Williams could have been a lot better. Apparently, they completely reworked the track, but Sony rejected it, and asked for something a lot closer to the original version.

Personally, I'm not keen on the Wyclef thing, especially when it eventually surfaced on a bona fida Queen album, but that's probably down to personal choice.

The thing that really upsets me though, is when you see stuff like Scandal and The Show Must Go On, achieved fairly crap chart positions, and then you get the 5ive and Wyclef attempts hitting the top ten. The thought that these things could wind up being remembered better than the originals borders on just being sad.

I do appreciate that in a lot of cases, things needed pushing when other things were about to happen. For instance, the various versions of We Will Rock You, timed to promote various openings of the musical around the world. I have no doubt we might see a similar, but more intense push when this movie comes out. I guess it's just a fact of life.

In it's favour, Brian doing his solo, WAS the only "live" performance over the opening and closing ceremonies. Retrospectively, that took a lot of cohonas, and could have easily gone so wrong.

Apparently, the people producing the show were having kittens about the only factor of their show that wasn't being done in a controlled environment.

Some of the regulars here will crucify me for this, but as terrible as most of them were, they were mercifully brief, so by default, the worst is Adam Lambert.

I'm sure he's a lovely guy, but I can't hear him warble another Queen song ever again.

The song itself wasn't great but I always liked the live ("live") 5ive performances of We Will Rock You when half way through the song a curtain would drop and Brian and Roger would spring into action. They did this at a festival IIRC but also on Top of the Pops which didn't mean much by then but must have been their last appearance on it

Party At The Park I think the festival was? I'm not sure, but I remember recording it on good old video tape.
I didn't realise that it was on TOTP. I completely missed that until now. Wasn't it also performed on the Brit Awards?
Wow, that was nearly 20 years ago now
