Weakest Queen Songs

Postby Soul Brother » Tue Aug 07, 2018 12:05 pm

Body Language
Jesus
Fun It
Get Down Make Love
All God's People
More Of That Jazz
Rock It (Prime Jive)
In Only Seven Days
Dancer
Man On The Prowl
Delilah

All the B Sides
Each morning I get up and die a little....
Our lives dictated by tradition, superstition, false religion
I feel like no one ever told the truth to me.
About growing up and what a struggle it would be....

I think there is often a marked decline in the B-sides. When I listen to every album chronologically, I always end with all of the non-album tracks that have been officially released. It's still perfectly listenable but there is certainly a decrease in quality compared to everything else. For me, the weakest Queen songs are:

1. Jesus - Great guitar part, but it's just not good.
2. Mad The Swine - Definitely right to drop it from Queen.
3. Feelings Feelings - But it's also incomplete so I'll let them off.
4. In Only Seven Days - Lyrically juvenile, uninteresting.
5. Don't Try Suicide - What on Earth was Freddie thinking!?
6. Thank God It's Christmas - Trite, and the most unforgiving of adjectives for Queen: boring.
7. Party - Immature and silly. They're middle-aged at this point!
8. Hijack My Heart - It's okay on it's own terms, but it's dated and doesn't sound like Queen at all.
9. Stealin' - Half an idea, really.
10. Lost Opportunity - Absolute yawnfest. Again, the unforgivable 'boring'.

But let's face it, the above is only dreadful in comparison to the rest of Queen's output!

Forgot about Party (we had a food fight in somebody's face) and TGIC (boring AF).

Thank God for subjectivity.

I find Fun It and More Of That Jazz as two of Roger's best Queen songs.

Still, that's one of Queen's biggest strokes, they put something in there for everyone.
What is left of your dream?
Just the words on your stone.
A man who learnt how to teach,
But forgot how to learn.

Let's see...

"Seven Seas Of Rhye" (Original)
"Loser In the End"
"She Makes Me"
"Sweet Lady"
"Don't Try Suicide"
"Coming Soon"
"Dancer"
"Back Chat"
"Body Language"
"Put Out the Fire"
"Life Is Real"
"Cool Cat"
"Man on the Prowl"
"Machines (Or 'Back to Humans')"
"Keep Passing the Open Windows"
"One Year of Love"
"Pain Is So Close to Pleasure"
"Don't Lose Your Head"
"Friends Will Be Friends"
"Party"
"My Baby Does Me"
"Delilah"
"You Don't Fool Me"

I could pretty much throw the most of Hot Space, The Works and A Kind of Magic under the collective bus, here. Some gems on those, but overall...

I didn't count Flash Gordon.

Really?

I think ''39' is quite good, as are 'I'm in Love with My Car' and 'You and I'. 'Life Is Real' may not be a masterpiece, but it's not that weak, is it? Same for, say, 'Bijou'. 'We Will Rock You' was also technically originally a B-Side in EMI territories.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger did not compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

Time out.

I quite enjoy Cool Cat, Pain is So Close to Pleasure and Backchat.

My Baby Does Me and Coming Soon are alright. Even Party isn’t terrible though I prefer Khashoggi’s.

For me, I’d say the ones I like least are Sweet Lady, The Loser in the End, Fun It, More of that Jazz and Man on the Prowl.

Even a song like Machines which is so dated is redeemed by Freddie’s brilliant singing.

I don't often butt when its comes to people's subjective opinions. But "Jesus" a bad song? I do not agree. Just had to say it!

I never met Frederick and it wasn't his birth name. Cor, you keep getting stuff wrong all the time!

I always thought it was an okay song, but not one of their best really.....but the De Lane Lea demo version utterly rocks, though!
