Speed Painting of Freddie

Postby M&M » Mon May 31, 2010 2:03 pm

For those interested in graphics like myself, I thought I'd share a video I found by accident during a random search a few weeks ago. I thought his portrait of Freddie was so stunningly realistic that I must have watched it a dozen times in awe. He's painted many other famous people, but I, of course, think this one is the best!

If you're interested in the technique, the artist describes how he created this and his personal feelings on the subject matter on his website: http://williams-shamir.com/speed-painting-videos/speed-painting-freddie-mercury-painting-process/:

I sent the artist a "well done" email, and his reply was so humble and sweet. He said painting Freddie turned out to be so inspiring and enjoyable for him that he may consider more such images in the future.

That is astounding. The way he focuses on individual areas rather than building up the whole thing but completes it all seamlessly, he must have an incredible eye for detail. What a talent, just fantastic.

I'm so glad you both enjoyed this. I thought the detail of the eyes was just amazing. As someone who has worked in graphics, even my absolutely best effort wouldn't have been as good as the first few seconds of that video (his rough outline)!

Wow, that was just simply amazing. Looks really just like Freddie, it's almost as he brought him back alive!

I don't want to sound stupid but how do they do this fantastic stuff? What program do they use? Just wondering...
These guys are great, anyway.
