I might get lynched for this but I only like the live version of We Will Rock You. The studio version lacks energy or sizzle and is pretty monotonous. Live it becomes an epic track thanks to addition of drums and guitar earlier into the track.

This might be a little off topic...

I used to prefer the Live Killers version of Spread Your Wings, but now prefer the BBC session version. It's much more aggressive and interesting.

I think the reason why we would prefer the Live Killers version though, is that Freddie's voice is less rough. Don't get me wrong, I love his rough sound, but not as much as his more rounded sound, if you know what I mean.

I prefer the live versions of at least In the Lap of the Gods and Tear It Up. I'm quite sure there are others as well, but none of them comes to my mind at the moment.

I had heard the live version(s) of Love of My Life before the album version. I love it live, love the strong feeling of unity when everyone sings it together - hearing and seeing it always makes me wish I was there in the audience. Somehow I automatically assumed it would be better than the album version, but when I started to listen to the latter I fell in love with it right away, too, but in a different way. It really is almost like a different song to me. The album version has a specific kind of an old-fashioned and romantic feeling to it that I can't quite explain in English. I can imagine a beautiful and elegant man in his fashionable clothes sitting at a piano in a fancy salon.

I see I went a little off topic here, heh. I've been listening to Love of My Life quite a lot lately, and just wanted to mention that. :)

I prefer the live versions of the songs from the Hot Space album. It just happens that on average that my favorite versions of Queens songs are the live ones. It does come down to each individual song though. Some songs just sound better on the album.

Liar, Brighton Rock, and In The Laps Of The Gods Revisited. But nothing can trump White Queen's studio version. Nothing.

I prefer the variation of the Killer Queen solo from the Rainbow medley. Haven't seen it for a while, but off the top of my head it's Bo Rhap, March of the Black Queen, Killer Queen and then into Bring Back that Leroy Brown. The solo's extended into this very melodic, bluesy type thing. Very short, but sweet.

On Hammersmith 75, the Xmas gig, it runs..

Bo Rhap; Killer Queen; March Of The Black Queen; Bo Rhap (Reprise).

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'd have a few doubts whether or not they ever played Bo Rhap at either of the stints they did at the Rainbow, as they were all in 1974, and even on the latter appearances, that would have been pushing on a year before Freddie apparently wrote the song.

Still, I'm quite happy to be amazed and astounded when the Rainbow shows eventually come out, and I'm proven wrong.

But forgot how to learn.

i generally prefer live versions to studio versions but the live versions that stick out as being better are
save me [esp montreal version before the addition of an extra keyboard player]
dont stop me now
under pressure
kind of magic
who wants to live forever
in the lap of the gods [both versions]
white queen
white man
action this day
somebody to love
you're my best friend

I also prefer the fast live version of We Will Rock You. Perhaps because the original is played so commonly, the live version is a bit more fresh and exciting for me.
