More Live Albums In The Next Years. Start 2014.

Talk about Queen's live performances.

More Live Albums In The Next Years. Start 2014.

Postby DREAMASTER » Sun Apr 07, 2013 1:31 pm

Well a friend of mine that works on Universal Records told me that there's talks in the company that Queen will possible release new and unreleased live material in the form of live albums (and possible live footage too in dvd and blu-ray). It's seems that all starts in 2014 with the Live at The Rainbow concert.

Well I hope this is true :onfire:

I'm sure they said that 2012 was going to be the year of live releases. We got one Magic Tour gig. :(

So no Rainbow this year then?

I'm skeptical of the idea we might be in store for a systematic or comprehensive set of live releases over the next for years as suggested but I'm equally skeptical that we *won't* get Rainbow this year.

Well, they have to stretch their releases to fulfil their contract...

Well the idea seems to release a concert every year. Like rainbow 1974-2014, Hammersmith 1975-2015, Hyde Park 1976-2016, Houston 1977-2017.

I still hold some hope it starts after the Spring.

I don't think spring has started yet in the UK given the crappy weather!

Mmm...they need to release more audio concerts first that do not have a film related to them. I still stand by that "Rainbow" should be in a more career comprehensive set that would have some full concerts and selections from others both released and unreleased.

I was also wondering that why they decided to release just the remastered studio albums and not the Live-releases at the same time?
Or did the label think that it's a bit too overkill to release everything at once and they can cash in later when the dust has settled down concerning the reissued studio releases?

And AlexKx, I too am dreaming of this bigger Live Box full of stuff! But maybe they can make more money when they release the Live releases separately and not as a box set? Surely they have thought of these options in the label?

Chances are, if they bother releasing audio only concerts, on a hard format, then they won't go with more than about three of four releases on catalogue. It's called flooding the market.

When Universal went for releasing the albums, they decided that releasing all of them at once, would be saturating the market, and decided that batches of five studio albums was a more or less ideal figure. Live albums traditionally don't sell as well as studio ones, so the live stuff was put on the back burner. Unfortunately, the first planned audio only release, was postponed after the thing, and PR point it was connected to got cancelled, ie Knebworth 86, and Sonisphere 2012. They just need to get back on track with it.

Ok!

Maybe there's gonna be a similar push that was the promotion of the Reissue studio stuff, done on the live releases? Like for example A Live Year-sort of event?

Or at least what I've gathered that there is a fairly big amount of live stuff that is waiting to be released and re-released if you look at the live albums and all the 70's live stuff that has been filmed.
But then again they've already released Wembley, Hungary and now the Bowl as a re-release, so that takes some steam from my speculations... :D

Universal do not currently have ANY stand-alone "Queen" live audio releases on catalogue.

Wembley CDs were part of a DVD combo pack and Budapest CDs were part of either a DVD or BD combo pack. The only live audio stuff they've put out on a catalogue CD is Q+PR's ROTC.

Hollywood released On Fire At The Bowl, the same time they released the DVD, and AFAIK, the audio CDs are still on catalogue. Eagle won't be able to release them on CD, as they only have the video contract. So, even if Hollywood repress them, nothing has changed there so technically, it's not a reissue anyway.

Thanks for clearing things up.
It easily gets really fuzzy that which release is contractually tied to which label and who gets to release and what. :D

So the video contract with Eagle includes all the video-stuff? Live stuff and the music videos as well?
Or are the live and the music videos scattered to different labels?
