They WERE doing three gigs that day, which I think AT THE TIME, was some kind of a record attempt. Three gigs in three different countries, or something.

I guess that's why it was being filmed.

With Queen, for them, it was just the last gig of the tour, and an unscheduled one at that. A tour where they had already pro-shot two gigs at opposite ends of Europe.

Had everyone known it was going to be their very last gig, I'm sure they'd have thrown a stupid amount of resources at it.

Just an estimate, but I'd reckon Wembley and Budapest must have cost something like about 80 grand each to shoot, maybe more, and when you already have two gigs in the can, why would you bother going through all the expense of a third one, you'd probably never use? Hindsight, eh?

20 Cameramen for a day plus; camera hire, consumables, directors editing suite (probably in a big mobile truck), cabling, I would have said mobile audio studio, but they actually had one of those at Knebworth).

Queen arriving in helicopter at 7:30. There is also the 2nd helicopter that probably shot the photo that is inside the gatefold of the Live Magic LP.

In fairness there seems to be just one bloke filming it, who arrives with the Quo (and his portable camera), sits off stage left with his camera, and leaves with the Quo (taking his camera with him, the swine).

There's also one shot at 5.54 from stage right, somewhere out in the crowd- a second press pit? Who filmed that, I wonder. So perhaps there's a bit of Queen footage from that angle, albeit miles from the stage, out there somewhere.

I think the biggest annoyance was that they used a Starvision screen there, with about four or five cameras, and a bloke who decided what angle and at what moment it went up on the screen, so it really WAS just a simple case to hook the feed up to a VCR, so most of the resources were in place to film the show, if only for their own benefit, it really wouldn't have cost anything.

Even that, was recorded as a B side.

It was only after they had that and Gentleman Joe's Sidewalk Cafe in the can, that they decided to switch the intended A side and B side, and had their first hit.

They evolved into a tidy and reliable 12-bar blues rock band. Probably the best this country has ever produced.

Often panned for being TOO set in their roots, they became VERY proficient at what they did.

My hopes rest with this thought, remember how it was claimed that only 4 or so songs had been recorded at the Friday Wembley concert as a camera test and then low and behold all of that nights concert ended up being on tape. So maybe, just maybe Brian saying that someone forgot to plug the video recorder lead in or to press the record button is just a red herring and maybe it does exist. Well I can dream can't I.
