Freddie Tribute Never Released on CD?

Postby Leigh Burne » Tue Aug 23, 2016 11:41 am

How come the Freddie tribute concert has never come out in CD form? Considering the number of times it's seen video releases, and given that just about every other Queen concert video release of recent years has had a CD equivalent (even if it was only available packaged with the video), it seems a bit odd that this one's only ever been put out in the visual format.

I can only imagine it's to do with artist rights maybe? If they do release it on CD though I'd want a vastly improved audio mix than the mess of a mix currently released on the Blu Ray and DVD editions!

Def Leppard released their recording of "Now I'm Here" with Brian May as a B-side, too.

I can't really see it being a rights issue, because if they have the rights to publish a film recording of the concert on DVD, surely they have the rights to put out just the audio on a CD as well? I can't see them being allowed to do the former but not the latter, considering the audio is already a part of the footage, but maybe I'm wrong.

Were you there?

Just asking. Gigs are never quite the same watching them on the TV.

Just seems everything you comment on these days is "shit". I'm beginning to think you consider yourself a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to faecal matter.

I guess it hurt when you saw Guns n Roses were made to look fairly ordinary by the likes of Metallica and Def Leppard.

It was a great concert great sound and on the whole excellent support performances. I've pointed out before that what was odd watching it back that some folks that really worked in the stadium didn't come across particularly well on the dvd (or vhs double tape! in my case) and those that were mediocre did.

I suppose like sport. Its a very different experience being there rather than watching on a flat tv gestating on a sofa

I was there, and can agree that some of the live performances 'in the flesh' were far greater than captured on the releases. The sound in the stadium was also superb, which isn't the case with the released audio. Roger's bass drum sounded the best I've ever heard it.

I wonder what ever happened with the giant phoenix that was hanging above the stage ? Who made it?
Did they store it up somewhere after the concert?

Maybe a good idea to sell pieces of it to fans, for the Mercury Phoenix Trust? A lost opportunity?
