Which concert do you think is the best ever released?
You may select 2 options!

- Sound and picture quality
- Setlist
- Camera angles
- Additional content, such as booklet or bonus material

Surprisingly enough, my primary criteria in voting, was which gig I was actually at

It is an incredible thing that their first concert also has stunning picture quality.

Not so much.

With these things, particularly video format, it depends how long the masters are sat on a shelf.

Although the Rainbow was filmed on videotape, it was quickly transferred to celluloid (film stock) for cinematic release, and celluloid seems to hold it's picture definition over time, a lot better than video. I think you can fairly safely bet the transfers for restoration for the DVD and bluray releases came from a film copy, not the original videotape master.

If you went back into the days of VHS home video releases, the Rainbow gig even looked good on that, better than Rio, and the first Greatest Flix home video.

The biggest problem the team would have had with Rainbow, was getting the video sound sync back to where it should be, as there were noticeable problems on the VHS version.

I went with the Rainbow and Montreal - still wonder if maybe a future release will yet be better...

The rainbow gig just has such a raw energy and sound along with an interesting and varied set list now that we finally more that just the old edit from the VHS.

Montreal probably doesn't have the same energy as some of the other shows listed but just has some near perfect live versions - Save Me I'm sure is the best live version I've heard and others like SBTL and PTG are really good as well.

Wembley 86 I've probably watched more than the others just because of the many releases and it's an excellent show but after watching the Friday one when that was added it changed my opinion - Freddie sounds better on Friday but I think Brian's improvised solos in AKOM, HTF etc. are better on Saturday....
