Hmmm, I wonder where Spike Edney was?

Talk about Queen's live performances.

Hmmm, I wonder where Spike Edney was?

Postby AlexKx » Sun Jan 01, 2017 6:40 am

I wonder why Spike Edney did not perform at "A Concert For Life: A Tribute To Freddie Mercury"? Not that it was too bad that he did not as he was not an official member of the group any ways. Plus I suppose it was good to do a project with different side musicians since he was not an official member. PLUS maybe Roger and the group wanted to distinguish him from being in The Cross and not in QUEEN as much as possible? Then AGAIN The Cross were dissolved in early 1992 shortly after QUEEN's initial breakup, right? Which wold not change the reasoning for not including him for that project ("A Concert For Life"), huh?

Yep, Spike (real name Phillip) was present for the entire second half of the show, from Tie Your Mother Down right through to We Are The Champions, in fact even playing the familiar piano intro to WATC.

Where on earth did you get the idea that he wasn't there? Certainly not from actually watching the show, that's for sure. His name was even on the back of the event's T-shirt, along with everyone else!

Does anyone know why Brian May wasn't at the Tribute Concert?

He was busy that week. His family celebrate Easter.

Why did I dare ask?! Oh, I don't know because I did not do a research project because I don't recall them EVER showing him. J.H.W.C. Of course they did show someone else playing keyboards. Keyboards for everyone! Glad QUEEN could show up to play with them...

He was shown.
Too bad you are trolling about such events, I guess the George Michael thread wasn't enough, now you got to troll about the Freddie Tribute...
Cause if you watched it, you would know he was shown. :sigh:

Who do you reckon that person was that you saw at the piano on Somebody To Love, alex with half a dozen x's?

Think of a person who was quite likely one of only about four people outside the band to be credited with co-writing an officially released Queen studio track.

Still a tough one? OK, the guy in the Barcelona video with the glowing Conductor's baton, maybe?

Spike even got his own special introduction and mention by Brian at the start of Too Much Love Will Kill You!!

If you hadn't noticed Mike Moran (who played on Somebody to Love) that might have been an easier to understand omission, but to think Spike wasn't there is just odd!!

The thing is, Alex, that you could have just asked if Spike performed there like a normal fan would, rather than coming up with all your wild guesses as to why he wasn't. Or you could have just googled it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Freddie_Mercury_Tribute_Concert Look to the bottom under backing musicians.

My guess is you're in a mood and felt like stirring something up.

Never mind Spike, why wasn't Freddie there? I heard they had a fall out, he flounced off and the rest of the band staged a really passive-aggressive 'Tribute' show.

So ANYWAYS I dared ask a question. With that said, not that you all care, "Too Much Love Will Kill You" was never aired in the U.S. either on the original broadcast or MTV. Of course only real fans know this...AND maybe you all have seen some other edit. And NO as I've watched the concert for a quarter of century Spike could have been there with his balls all hanging out BUT if he did it sure as hell isn't obvious because again, I don't recall seeing this bloke in any version of this concert...again going by whatever was aired.

Yep. Exactly what I said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYAR8RigqDA The official clip and no evidence of a certain Spike Edney. Quick fraction of a second with Mike Moran but that's it. So the evidence may be there but it certainly isn't "obvious" is it fuckers?
