Live Killers remaster in 2017 ?

Postby TheHero » Tue Mar 14, 2017 11:37 pm

Are they going to put out a new Live Killers album? Because the old one is out of stock ..

I would love to see an official deluxe 2LP set on red / green vinyl, like the Japanese version.

All the live albums were slated for re-mastered releases when the 2011 deluxe sets came out, but were pulled (as usual).

Pretty sure a reissue of Live Killers has been brought up on here every year for the last five years.

I don't know, but I'd have thought 2019 would be a good excuse. :-)

It never fails to astound me that a band known for their live brilliance has never really given us a proper live collection. A live box set would be fucking fantastic.

"The trouble is you record and release your live album because everyone says you should, and end up selling it to the converted anyway" Brian May 1979

Maybe that reasoning is enough to stop anything like a live box set.

You could well be right.

I think a big box set release - including all those rare recordings and the odd snippets of filmed performances that are simply not long enough to justify a stand-alone release - would be welcome by many fans...

...although what we will probably get is Queen Yahtzee.

I've always thought it strange that two of the showpiece songs on that tour, we're not included on the Live Killers album. Somebody To Love was without doubt one of the best performed songs on the entire setlist. To this day, it's the only Queen song to ever hit the top ten as a live version in the UK. Admittedly "that" version features George Michael, but it's still one of the band's best live songs.

Btw. The other one missed off was Fat Bottomed Girls, just in case you were curious.

I stopped listening to Live Killers ever since I first heard that the live albums will be remastered eventually. Especially the Live Killers era was supposed to be reworked quite a bit. Not just sound-wise, but also content-wise. (I think Greg Brooks mentioned that?) However, I really don't know if I can wait until 2019... I should give the old Live Killers a spin again...

I thought it might get the same treatment as the NOTW box set in 2019. It does need it I reckon. I seem to remember Roger saying once that he was not entirely happy with the album around the time, so maybe this would be a good time to revisit that time. I could only imagine what stuff could be in it, all those shows in Europe have no doubt tons of material that wasn't included on the original release. Somebody to love, Fat Bottomed Girls etc. But it could do with a revamp as well. I never liked the version of Don't stop me now on that album, and they could remove the beeps to find out what Freddie actually says!!!! I'm sure the public can take it in 2019 !

If You Can't Beat Them was also played on this tour (alternating with FBG) but didn't find it's way onto Live Killers either. One wonders why Dreamer's Ball made the cut.

So glad DB did make it. I love that version. But yes, would like IYCBT.
Do I remember It's Late was also performed? Another odd live omission at this stage.

Thinking back to the time, Live Killers was kind of released under duress anyway, as Queen bootlegs were doing quite well, and the band felt they were missing out on a market.

I've always felt that the sound quality on certain songs was a little lacking, notably the first two, and a couple towards the back end of the album.

A total revisit to the multitrack tapes that the album was made from, and possibly a reassessment of all the performances they had in the can, might be able to address this issue.

Anyway, I think if and when it comes, it'll be part of a whole audio/visual set of releases, so you'll not only get a revamped Live Killers album, but a DVD/bluray release too.

I'm sure there's loads of astounding stuff from both the Live Killers and Crazy tour.
Unfortunately they are not willing to give us box sets with several unheard shows so I doubt an eventual box from that era will be as good as it can be...
Truly a pity :-(

How did I forget It's Late?

Yes it was performed on this tour. As you say another bizarre omission from Live Killers.

It's Late would stay in the setlist until the end of the Jazz Japanese tour.
