Gawd, I remember so clearly watching this on our little TV all those years ago. I was 11 at the time and had been aware of Queen but knew nothing about them. After watching Freddie perform that day that was it: I was absolutely, wholeheartedly, passionately in love; he just floored me...absolutely fucking floored me. Bless the old tart. x

Queen were awesome but not many artists were particularly good.
U2 were very good . Dire Straits if you like them were good. The Who and Bowie were very good too.
Trouble was a lot of folks on the bill just didn't do or suit stadiums so got a bit lost in it really.

I remember Duran Duran being considerably dire on the day.

Being fair, I think all the bands who rehearsed, and had a decent amount of stage-craft, didn't come across too badly.

Someone said The Who were pretty good. Not from my memory they weren't, and that's a shame, as I quite like them as a band.

It's gone down in folklore that it was a 'magical day' but yeah the truth is it was mostly terrible. All our boys had to do was come out and do 18 minutes of their usual fantastic live show and it effortlessly blew the rest of the acts away whilst simultaneously reminding Joe Public how good they were.

Nik Kershaw did a OK performance in his own unique style.

Led Zeppelin had a reunion set they'd rather people forget. I suppose it's a great anti-drug PSA for kids, though.

Utter shite. They were a complete embarrassment. Plant has never been a great singer, imho, anyway.

And Stairway To Heaven was only included because of Queen's stunning performance apparently, which I never knew before.

So was Robert Plant right to blame Phil Collins for the train wreck of a set? I've never been into Led Zeppelin so i dont know if Collins was playing what he should have been or not. Seems harsh to blame the drummer for everything.

Led Zeppelin ran out of gas in the late 70s .
I think many of their albums are quite boring tbh. Robert Plant seems to be bored playing their own songs.

You gotta check this review. I love it!

Maybe this might change your mind on Robert's voice ;-)
The Celebration Day CD is a kille, IMO:
