EVERY version I've heard since then, doesn't even come close.

Yeah, I've never heard anyone sing that song anything like as well as Freddie did, and the poor bloke was dying when he did it.

That cover by Thompson is the closest I've ever heard anyone get. Pretty incredible. I'm now even more gutted "A Kind of Magic" got dropped from the gig.

what was CT supposed to sing? A kind og Magic?
Wasn't Roger supposed to do a song as well? Luckily, Spinal Tap used what..15 minutes?!

CT's Show must go on was my favourite non-Freddie version, until Paul Rodgers showed up.

Spinal Tap get it in the neck for that, but the actual delay in their set was actually about one and a half minutes. Guns n Roses took forever to come on and there was talk on TV about them having technical problems and having to drop their horn section (which could also be utter baloney). I'm not 100% sure they were committed to AKOM, I reckon it was a placeholder or a backup in case anyone dropped out, got lost backstage etc.

As for TSMGO I still think of it as Elton's song (live). I love his version and he did it nightly on his own subsequent tour. Also of course at the last ever Queen performance with John. Will check CT's version at some point. :)

Jeff Scott Soto did a reasonable version of it, on the DVD of his performance at the fan club convention.

Hopefully, one day you'll all get to hear the original song being built, like a few of us got the chance a couple of months ago.

many great covers on JSS' convention dvd (which now is sadly horribly outdated in terms of productions), but his version, to me, is not close to CT's, and certainly not PR's.

Being fair about that convention DVD, it has a pretty epic running time for a single DVD, and maybe that's the reason for the lack of picture quality.
