Live Compliation

Talk about Queen's live performances.

Live Compliation

Postby djaef » Tue Jul 24, 2018 6:26 am

Hey guys,
Been a long time since I was here regularly.
Can anyone point at a thread about a good live compilation?
My daughter's boyfriend (he's only 16) quite likes Queen but he really only knows the singles, and so I've made a couple of compilations for him to introduce him to the really good stuff (The Early Years and The Later Years), but I'd now like to put together a compilation of the best of their officially released live stuff (mostly due to the less than stellar audio quality of most boots, although I'm sure I've got some good ones of those as well) But I started looking through all their live albums, and my compiling efforts are not as good as the studio stuff.
So I figured someone must have already done this on here..
So, any pointers?
cheers

Just to clarify, I'm not looking for the actual music; I have that already. I just want a good compilation set list.

Seriously? All thes hard core fans here and no one has made their own official live compilation that they would share the tracklist from?

I wanted to do something like that back in the day when I would burn CD-Rs. I had the idea of a compilation of songs from official live albums and bootlegs, but I never did it. If I had known how to edit it together so it sounded like one concert, I might have done it. I don't think I ever got as far as making a tracklist, though.

Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

Why not have a go at just compiling the track list from Greatest Hits or something? Or maybe jumble up the track listing of that album, more in the order they used to play them.

No, I try to avoid the big hits in my compilations.
The trouble with a live compilation of course is that they mostly play the hits, but also their live show changed so much over the years.

I was just trying to find a way to highlight some of their best live work in a way that flowed like a concert does.
I'll keep working on it. :)

You would be better off giving the daughter's boyfriend a single concert CD/DVD. Wembley, Milton Keynes, Montreal are all great. Live Killers is a compliation already but it flows like a single concert would.

I just recently tried putting together a live compilation consisting of all the random one-off live tracks the band has released that weren't on one of their live albums/DVDs or used as a B-side. Things like the live songs exclusive to the 2011 bonus EPs or the Absolute Greatest streaming videos. Wound up being a fairly interesting 2CD set, sort of a Rare Live Redux.
