"Small" is my favourite track off the l.p. that shall be not named..."C-lebrity" is also ok - both Roger tracks
my choice for a single as well - couldn't agree with you more
the Cosmos Rocks - I think it was a member of Status Quo that commented on the much awaited release on Mojo or Record Collector - sucked donkey's ass
it's so easy...

Small is also one of my favourites. I prefer Call Me and Say It's Not True though.

That would be a bit of a rich accolade coming from a band that haven't progressed to a noticeable fifth chord in over 40 years, or haven't had a sizeable hit since just after they found the fourth f*cker.

I like Quo for what it's worth, I just think it's a bit cheeky of any of them to think of themselves as critics.

All of this has made me put the album on(it's been a long time)!

I remember when it was released that it was the ballads and slower-tempo songs that really impressed me. Over time I've really started to appreciate songs like "Still Burnin'" and "Surf's Up".

Here's how I would rank them in personal preference:

1.)We Believe
2.)Say It's Not True/Small/small reprise(can't choose between them!)
3.)Some Things That Glitter
4.)Surf's Up
5.)Still Burnin'
6.)Voodoo
7.)Through The Night
8.)Time To Shine
9.)C-lebrity
10.)Cosmos Rockin'
11.)Call Me
12.)Warboys

You just cannot compare them. Not at all. The thing that makes 'Hot Space' a better album - well, it's a Queen album. It included all 4 members on it. Still, it's impossible to compare.

'Small' is definitely the most boring track on that record. Well, that's my opinion. Nothing really happens in there, it's just so incredibly boring.
I think 'Call Me' is still my favourite, next to the title track. But to be honest - I don't remember some of the other moments on the record, because I haven't played it for ages - and that says enough, I guess.

What you describe as boring others would describe as ruminative, wistful and the only song with a decent, mature lyric. Drowse from Day at the Races is similarly repetitive, it's designed to be to create an atmosphere to put across the lyric. Its about atmosphere, it may not be the genre of song you like

I believe Small would have been a wonderful Made in Heaven-esque song with a few minor lyrical tweaks, and a little bit of variation.Above all, the vocals shoud have been split between Roger and Brian. Rogers has little variety in his voice, he's just a rock and blues singer who has one way of emoting or delivering: SING LOUDER AND WITH A BIT OF HUSK

My impression of the album is of it
1. being rushed - particularly Brian's songwriting contributions
2. Regardless of the actual playing, it could never overcome the lyrics. They were horrendous. Now lyrics aren't everything for some people, but i was aggravated by the fact that the band, didn't realise they were horrendous and consequently saw nothing wrong in foregrounding them (We believe, Warboys)
3. Playing live was never going to just give them an automatic studio identity. Beyond the types of rock songs that had been played successfully live, there was suprisingly little chemistry or synergy between the guys and PR resulting in little overall creativity or spontaneity. There was very little added value to the studio experience to add to the live progress they had made as a live combo. Not saying they didn't sound great live of course

I only listened through the album once, then never again, and to be honest none of the songs particularly grabbed me. I'm half tempted to give it another go though. I'm a big fan of Paul Rodgers and I never hated his... 'association' with Queen, and judging by what most of you are saying here I should probably have a listen to it again at some point.

I do remember wondering why Runaway wasn't actually on the main album.

Wasn't this something about contractual issues that iTunes had the sole right to sell it? Amazing cover. Really love it.

Because it was a cover. Small is the best song, no doubt. For me one of the best songs included on a Record With "Queen" stamped on the cover. Say it's Not True and Cosmos Rocki'n are very good , also. Could have been good singles. Glitter is a good Brian ballad. Good album, in my opinion.
