iHeart Radio Festival - ideal setlist

Postby DrSpiderhead » Tue Jul 16, 2013 3:44 am

Okay, so Queen + Adam Lambert are performing the iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas. Elton John and Muse will also be performing that same day event. Since it is a festival and they will limited in what they can play, what 5-7 songs would you pick and who sings?

Well to be honest I think this should be said straight out. At this type of event there will be VERY little in the way of Deep Cuts. This is NOT a Queen audience. This is not even really a classic rock audience. They are going to do the hits and there should be NO issued with doing that to be honest.

They have to do Bo Rap/WWRY/Champions and being in the US I would expect AOBTD, Crazy and maybe FBG. The surprise will be in who shows up with them. We might get one deep cut especially if Grohl/Hawkins show....but I'm expecting

TYMD
FBG
Crazy
Show Must Go On
AOBTD
---surprise
---surprise
BoRhap
WWRY/WATC (maybe with everyone :P)

Surprise songs being with other artists maybe Under Pressure and Killer Queen?

I was definitely expecting:

BoRhap
WWRY/WATC

Hoping for:

1 Show Must Go On (with Elton John)
2 Who Wants to Live Forever (Adam)
3 Somebody to Love (Adam)
4 These Are the Days of Our Lives (Roger)
5 '39 (Brian)
6 Bohemian Rhapsody (with archival footage)
7 We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions (everyone)

But that might not be enough Adam songs to call it Q+AL

Who knows?

I think it would be enough -- although they aren't calling it Q+AL. They are calling it "Queen (featuring Adam Lambert)," which is slightly different. But, while I know the Elton John performance the "Show Must Go On" is very beloved by fans, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to switch Adam out for that one, since it's so vocally demanding.

It would be wonderful to have Elton John do something, especially a song with a strong piano line. Maybe "Crazy Little Thing Called Love?"

"Killer Queen" was apparently a big influence on Katy Perry, so it might be fun if she sang it -- especially if it was a duet with Adam or Justin Timberlake. I say Adam because he's a great duet partner, and Justin Timberlake because he's hilarious.

I might switch Adam out on "Somebody to Love." I don't know with who, but even as an Adam fan, I don't think what he brought to that song was so special that it couldn't just as well be done by someone else.

I loved both "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and "'39" in the concert videos, so I'd love to see them done again just as you have them. I also liked the "Bohemian Rhapsody" with Freddie footage as they did it in concert -- which would mean Adam singing part of the song as well.

And, of course WWRY/WATC is the natural ending to the set, cramming as many people onstage as possible. :D

I just heard a short interview with Adam Lambert and he mentioned that the setlist would likely be (and I'm paraphrasing) a reprise of the best bits from the London concerts.

There was a little bit of info about working with Brian and Roger as well. It's not relevant to this discussion, but it kind of fun if you're interested in what he thought of them as people.

The link is here, if anyone is interested in it.

Here's my set list taking into account what was Queen's greatest hits in the USA

Under Pressure (Adam + mystery guest)
AOBTD (Adam)
WWTLF (Adam)
TSMGO (Adam)
STL (Another mystery guest as I never liked Adam's rendition of this either)
CLTCL (Adam)
Radio Gaga (Adam + mystery guests)
Bo Rhap (Freddie and Adam like the Queen + AL shows)
WWRY/WATC (Adam and all mystery guests)

It's probably too long but I think Rhianna got to do 11 songs last year. I guess WWTLF doesn't belong as it was never a single in the US but it's too awesome to leave out! :)

Why is this subject in Dear Friends when it's a current project?

Hmm.... maybe it would have been better elsewhere. I really enjoyed STL, but Adam's "Who Wants to Live Forever" was just awesome from what I watched. I wouldn't be opposed at all to Katy Perry to sing "Killer Queen". I hope they do get 11, like Rhianna. I'm no fan of hers at all. I hope this leads to something more... perhaps the Queen + Michael Jackson songs will be compiled with a couple of new Brian/Roger tracks as well as Q+AL tracks and maybe a leftover Queen + Paul Rodgers track, like "Take Love". Maybe that's the "Forever Queen" album we read about so long ago.

I think you guys are dreamers. I would be surprised if anyone but Adam sings with Queen that night although it would be a nice combination. Justin Timberlake is scheduled to perform the next night (Saturday) so I doubt he will be there on Friday as well.

No it's definitely more than Adam. I believe in the Classic Rock article Roger stated that Queen would be performing with Adam and special guests.

Possibility percent....imo

Foo Fighters members - 85%
Katy Perry - 60%
Muse members - 50%
fun members - 40%

Anyone else would be in the low registers....

Did they add Foo Fighters to the line-up? Here's who is scheduled for Friday, September 20th:

Katy Perry, Queen + Adam Lambert, fun.
Elton John, Keith Urban, J. Cole
Muse, Tiesto, Chris Brown

They didn't add Foos but Brian and Roger are such good friends with them, I'd be surprised if they weren't suprise guests that didn't play with anyone but Queen.

Here's a recent Classic Rock interview with Roger Taylor in which Roger says they will be featuring Adam and a couple of other "guests" at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas:

Katy Perry has done an AMAZING liver version of the song "Don't Stop Me Now" and that seems most logical to me. With that as good as her performance was she disappointed me when it came to the guitar solo and she did the pose with the guitarist that I thought should have been MY move if I were the guitarist in some group. She leans over half way and had her arse sticking up in the air and the guitarist sat his guitar on her back (playing with it sitting straight up like a phallic symbol!) while playing that part. It gave the impression that they were fucking doggy style! I LOVED it! So offensive and yet so sexy! ;) 8-) Ow! It's just that if I were the guitarist I would have spread my legs in order to make it look more like I was in position to be fucking that way! :-P  Maybe they did not want it to be too graphic. Alas...there's always the future to do it again, eh?! :onfire:

CLTCL (Adam)
WWTLF (Adam)
STL (Nate Ruess/fun)
FBG (Nate/Adam)
DA (Adam)
Bo Rhap (ending by Adam)
