Really? One of the things which make Roger one of those rare drummers whose drumming you can recognise by ear, is how much and how loudly he uses the snare!
But Eden is burning, either brace yourself for elimination
Or else your hearts must have the courage, of the changing of the guard

Yeah, but he also shows an unbelievable amount of restraint when the song calls for it. Taylor Hawkins, on the other hand, plays BIG drums (not a criticism, Lou, just a statement of fact! :) )

Well, you have to admit, you showed us your cards just a bit when you came back from the Scala gig talking about how amazing Taylor was and that Robert and Brandon (can't remember the exact names) showed up!

It's fair enough though, from the phonecall from the queue I gathered there were other Queen fans there (:P), you absolutely have to be the only one who was genuinely there to see Taylor, and he is very cool. :P

I agree. One month ago, I would have said, "Taylor Hawkins. Yeah he's alright." But now? He's a genuine badass and I'm absolutely a fan!

Ha, yeah there were a few! :-P

I booked tickets because I wanted to see Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders live, there were no rumours when the dates were announced. Even if no one else had turned up, it would have been absolutely amazing anyway. They are amazing!

I saw them in Boston and the show was really awesome. I would have loved to have been in London but that was a complete impossibility. Regardless, I had an amazing time at the show!

Slightly scary prospect isn't it. :P Nevermind if neither of us return on Saturday we can presume something went awry even by our standards. ;)

I'm quite sure that the shennanigans that any pairing from the LOASA lot would be capable of would be legendary.

Come Saturday, we'll send out the search parties if we've not heard from you. Should we dispatch them directly to Taylor, Brian and Paul's homes? Or perhaps to the local jail on the assumption that you've been arrested for trespassing?

They are called Rim Shots and you do this by hitting the stick horizontally across the snare drum skin itself and the metal rim of the drum.

Creates a really load "crack" if you get it right.

I can normally hear if it is RT playing either by the High Hat kick he does on the 2nd and 4th beat of the bar (Bites the Dust is a good example of this) or his really laid back style. By this I mean he "lays" back on the beat - this is really hard to explain. But if you have a good ear for these things you can hear it.

Apparently Freddie always sang slightly flat but this is pleasing to the ear!

Thanks for that! Maybe he appears to not being hitting them very hard but actually manages to get a huge sound? Sorry I am not up on my drum knowledge! :-P Watching them together it just sort of brought home how much physical movement Taylor puts in to hitting the drums whilst Roger (or at least on this occassion) really seemed to be much more still and serene...?! If one can be serene when knocking two bells out of a drum!
