While I wasn't much interested in the offerings this year, and I looked only in two record stores, it seems that the Fun On Earth LP wasn't even available in the US, unless the two stores I checked out had ordered only one copy and it got snatched up pretty quickly.

You'll be able to buy it online at the weekend. Apart from the rip off price, they've also massively overpressed it. Leave it a couple of weeks and you'll be able to get it below RRP on eBay!

That's interesting, was £35 the going rate on RSD?
I know some stores still have some left.

jimbo wrote:Well just had a successful Record Store Day amazingly :)

I was only after 3 LP's and got all of them:-

Roger Taylor - Fun On Earth (2 LP PicDiscs)
Grant Hart - Every Everything/Some Something (LP/DVD documentary film)
Husker Du - Candy Apple Grey (reissue LP on coloured vinyl)

I thought the 7" and 12"s were expensive, so even though there were some nice items, I thought they were overpriced, but i did buy the Ghostbusters 10" in florescent (glow-in-the-dark) vinyl, well who wouldn't

I thought someone asked how much Fun On Earth was? But can't see it now :?

Anyway it was £26 when I bought it on Saturday.
Hot Space is actually only my 6th favourite Queen album.
(But is a very underrated album in my opinion).

How do you know it was massively overpressed?

Let's put it this way - if a release hasn't sold out in most shops during the first week of RSD and copies on eBay are going for RRP and less on eBay prior to shops listing their stock online, you have misjudged demand. RSD is all about trying to sell ready made rarities and fleecing people by selling music they already have on over priced vinyl. How many 7" vinyl re-issues at £12 a go by the likes of Bowie, The Rolling Stones or Deep Purple does anyone need? Assuming all stock has already left the warehouse, RT and team are lucky that shops are unable to return RSD stock!!

Being fair, and going through ALL of the completed listings on eBay, the cheapest one has sold for £26, but that was with six quid postage, most seem to fetching about £32.99, so, so far, NONE have been sold on eBay lower than the RRP.

Look back to when The Unblinking Eye was released, that didn't fetch a lot on eBay, does now though, even with about three versions of it just being released on the boxset.

Anyway, it's Roger isn't it?

One reason why his boxset was so long in coming, was most likely one of the labels he was signed to over the years, lost a mint on his contract, so unless they got a sizeable pay-off, wouldn't let him out of it early.

According to eil.com it's limited to 500 copies.

Well if EIL are saying 500 then we can be quite sure there are at least 1000 of them then

The point stands that unless eBay sellers have a found a way of using the Royal Mail for free, anyone trying to flog this on eBay is losing money and that was before shops made their stock available online.

Where did I claim I knew how many copies had been sold? I know there are plenty of copies knocking about out there - and the pressing amount I was told was 5000, not 500. I'd wager there were at least 500 available via the QOL pre-order. So in reality, probably less limited than a standard vinyl release would have been. RSD releases tend to quickly lose their value when people stop panicking to pick them up on eBay on RSD itself, just look at how litte that Queen 7" goes for now.

^ when you said it was massively over pressed I thought you had some insider info.
I realise now you must be just guessing.

I just told you how many have been pressed. No guessing involved, that's the pressing quantity I was told. I don't need non-existant sales figures when I already know there are plenty of copies out there still - you'd have to be pretty dumb to think there was enough demand for 5000 copies to sell quickly.

I'd "wager" that the QOL allocation was "at least" 500 too.

But maybe that's because I had already found out it was "about" 750 copies, and passed that on to everybody, but THAT'S by the by.

The more sketchy info was a pressing total, for QOL allocation and RSD combined, my estimate would be 2000, 3000 at a stretch, but I suppose it "could" be 5000, especially if someone's sat on a few dozen boxes of them, and hoarding them.

I genuinely think if there was 5000 of them, most sat in the paws of traders who don't want them, then this would be down to £15-£20 by now, and that's an opinion from someone who collects many artists records, not just Queen.
