Furia soundtrack - what's it actually like?

Postby Leigh Burne » Fri Jul 25, 2014 1:28 pm

Anyone own/heard Brian May's Furia soundtrack? What's it like? I keep thinking of checking it out, but never seem to get around to it. Any thoughts?

It's alright. The one song, Dream Of Thee is a classic. Beautiful acoustic style song.

The rest though gets a bit repetitive as it's based on the same theme (Dream of Thee). It's not bad though.

There IS one track on it that's a bit different, a reggae styled track that I'm not too sure has anything to do with Brian May.

By the way, if you've never seen the film, you have 90 minutes of your life free, that I have lost forever! I'm pretty sure it was never likely to get a nomination for a serious award.

Yes. Brian had NO musical involvement with that track whatsoever.

I'll agree that Dream Of Thee is a classic, so possibly are two or three of the instrumental themes based around it.

However, by sticking the FULL version on the end of the album, by the time you get to it, you "could" be pretty hacked of with the melodic sequence, so much, that you might miss what a bloody good song it is.

Agreed! I think that it should be the first song on the album...

Thanks. I imagine YouTube shall come to my rescue as far as "Dream of Thee" is concerned...

I came across the Furia soundtrack long before the fan club even announced it was available.

I was on a weekend away in Paris, and saw it on a shop display in a Virgin Records store on the Champs Élysées. Of course I checked who the production company was on the back of the CD, as there was an Australian Brian May doing movie soundtracks, and I didn't really want to own any of his work. At that time it was only available in France, and quite coincidentally, that was the week of it's release.

IIRC, I bought an album called Accolade (basically a guy doing guitar versions of Queen's songs, with Brian's blessings), at the same time, and remember being more impressed with that, than I was with Furia.

I've actually got that. Haven't listened to it for years, may have to dig it out.

It can be a bit repetitive, like the other say, but on the other hand Dream of Thee is one of Brian's best songs ever, IMO.
