What do you mean what went wrong here?
As much as I would like to read/hear what he might have to say, I don't ever expect him to be an open book, no pun intended.

Clearly something went wrong.

I don't think so, I think he is very private.

But to cut off all direct communication with Maylor? I thought it was said they only hear from him through his accountant or something like that. My suspicion has always been he was annoyed with some things Brian and Roger did. I'd like to believe it was whoring the Queen name out but, who know?

I don't know. I just hope he is happy and healthy.

We do have a very interesting thread around here which discusses in quite some detail the facts (i.e. what we "know" from various sources) and our speculations about the last years of Queen focussing on John Deacon's attitude towards Queen. It is an exciting read and from the information we gathered it is quite certain that indeed something "went wrong" there.

It was always said that John was the had the business mind in the band. Him leaving could well have been a simple financial decision... Hear me out.

When Freddie was alive the band Queen could command top money for an album, concert, appearance, etc. It could be that after Freddie died and following the Tribute and MIH album concert John just thought the effort to money ratio would not be the same. Why bother getting out of bed and working your arse off if you would be earning a fraction of what you did a decade ago. The fanbase would be smaller without Freddie and so was the amount of money coming in from each album, tour with a Queen+(vocal lead). Yet the effort needed would be the same (or even greater).

He certainly will not need money and I think the financial aspect coupled with Maylor selling out (on a few projects, anyway) he chose to walk away from Queen.

If you plus that with without Freddie his heart wasn't really in it anymore then It's quite a simple reason. Did he ever really get over Freddie's death? If I was to lose my best mate who I have known for 28 years, I don't know if I would get over it.

We have been over this... Then John took at least six years to realize this... why did he appear with only Roger as "Queen" in 1993, and why did he perform in 1997 (!) with Brian and Roger:
phpBB [video]

(most probably the last live appearance with Brian and Roger as "Queen")

and why did he record a song later that year?

If I am remembering correctly (and I may not be, I was in quite a state of drunkness :P ) I think during the convention Q+A this year Jacky said John is the easiest of the three to get an autograph from. Funny, considering how private he is.

John is a generous person, at least, that has been my personal experience.

He has 'given' even when not asked...he just does it because he wants to.
I find that quite nice.

As someone mentioned earlier, it's all in your approach.

Don't harass the man, be respectful of his space, and keep cool.
Anything is possible !

Just found this on YouTube, apparently posted just a month ago. Good to know John is up and about although it's really uncomfortable viewing. Clearly the poor bloke suffers from some sort of agrophobia these days ...can understand entirely why he wouldn't want to be bothered.

The comments place the clip as being from a We Will Rock You launch thing in 2002. Was definitely some kind of 'official' event as there were people there with gold discs to sign and stuff. And yeah, it's uncomfortable watching.
